Gorilla Glue #4 Feminized at a glance: Gorilla Glue #4, or GG4, is a slightly indica leaning hybrid of Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb and Chocolate Diesel that flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, tests 24% to 30% THC, grows 90 to 160 cm indoors and yields 500 to 600 g/m² of dense, sticky, silver-frosted buds with a pine, diesel and chocolate aroma.
A fixture on Canadian legal menus, now a seed you can grow at home
GG4 is one of the most familiar names on provincial legal store shelves, and in the provinces that allow home growing, many people would rather raise their own. Our feminized seeds are already in Canada, stocked in our Vancouver, BC seed bank and sent in plain, unbranded packaging that reaches any address in 3 to 7 business days without crossing a border. Each batch passes a viability test before it ships and is covered by our 80% germination guarantee, and the 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Gorilla Glue #4 comes from
Gorilla Glue #4 began as an accident in Las Vegas in the early 2010s. Two growers had Chem’s Sister and Sour Dubb in the same room, and a Chem’s Sister plant turned hermaphrodite and pollinated the Sour Dubb. They grew out the seeds, crossed the result with Chocolate Diesel, and kept the fourth phenotype they tested. That is the “#4” in the name.
The “Gorilla Glue” part came from trimming: the resin was so thick that scissors and gloves stuck together. The adhesive company of the same name objected, and after a 2017 settlement the strain was officially renamed. You will now see it as GG4 or Original Glue as well as Gorilla Glue #4, and all three names refer to the same plant. In 2014 it took first place at several cannabis cups in the United States.
The plant is close to balanced, with a slight indica lean, and it grows with the vigour and stretch of its Chem and Diesel ancestors.
Gorilla Glue #4 strain effects and experience
GG4 starts with a strong, happy rush to the head: a clear lift in mood, a burst of focus and often a wave of laughter. Within half an hour the body side settles in, heavy and warm, until getting up from the couch feels like a real decision. That “glued down” feeling is the other reason for the name.
With THC from 24% to 30%, this is one of the most potent classics in our catalogue. People new to strong strains should start with a very small amount, since a large dose can feel overwhelming and occasionally anxious. Most people keep GG4 for the evening.
Gorilla Glue #4 flavour, aroma and appearance
The aroma is sharp and earthy: pine forest and sour diesel first, then a dark chocolate and coffee note from the Chocolate Diesel side, with a skunky, pungent base that fills a room quickly. The smoke is thick and resinous, pine and earth on the inhale, diesel, mocha and a little pepper on the exhale. Caryophyllene leads the terpene profile, with myrcene and limonene behind it.
The buds are dense and chunky, lime to olive green with orange pistils, and they are covered in so many trichomes that they look silver from a distance. Even small buds leave your fingers sticky.
Growing Gorilla Glue #4 in Canada
Indoors
GG4 is vigorous and stretches hard, often doubling in height after the flip. Veg for three to four weeks and flip at 40 to 45 cm to keep the finished plant between 90 and 160 cm. It is a hungry strain in mid flower and handles a strong feed, but it dislikes heat stress, so keep days at 21 to 28 degrees and never let the canopy run hot under the lamp. From week five, hold humidity at 40% to 45%. Most plants finish between day 56 and day 63.
Outdoors, by region
An 8 to 9 week bloom lets GG4 finish across most of southern Canada, and its size makes it a strong outdoor performer. In the Okanagan and southern Alberta, plant out in late May for a harvest near the end of September; a single plant can pass two metres. On the BC coast and in southern Ontario, expect the first days of October; stake the branches early, because the colas get heavy and snap in wind. On the Prairies, germinate in April and plant out after the last frost, and the dry September air will help the dense buds. In Atlantic Canada, a sunny, sheltered spot is essential. Our high THC seeds guide compares it with other strong strains that finish outdoors.
Height and training
Top GG4 twice and train it flat under a net; the stretch makes it ideal for a screen of green, with ten to sixteen even colas in a well filled tent. Supercrop any tall branches in the first two weeks of flower. Clear the lower third at the flip and thin the interior leaves at day 21 so light and air reach the middle.
Flowering and harvest cues
Resin builds fast from week five. Check trichomes from day 55 and harvest when most are cloudy with 10% to 20% amber for the full, heavy effect. Hash makers often cut slightly earlier, when heads are fully swollen and clear to cloudy. Dry for 12 to 14 days at 60% humidity; the chocolate and coffee notes deepen over a cure of three weeks.
Gorilla Glue #4 yield indoors and outdoors
GG4 is a heavy producer for a strain this potent. A trained indoor canopy returns 500 to 600 g/m², and a full-season outdoor plant gives 600 to 800 g dried in a warm year. Resin returns are exceptional, which is why so many hash and rosin makers grow it, and even the trim is worth keeping.
Who Gorilla Glue #4 is for, and who should pick something else
Grow GG4 if you want heavy resin, big yields and a potent evening effect, or if you make hash and rosin. It also suits growers who have a tall tent or an outdoor spot with room to stretch. Gorilla Glue #4 feminized seeds remove the male plant problem that made the original cross a happy accident.
Pick something else if you are sensitive to high THC, have a short tent with no room for the stretch, or want a sweet, fruity flavour.
How Gorilla Glue #4 compares
Chemdog, the family behind Chem’s Sister, is sharper, more cerebral and less resinous. Sour Diesel brings the fuel on a taller, more energetic plant. Alien Gorilla Glue adds Afghan toughness and is the better pick for a damp coastal autumn. Black Gorilla, a GG4 child with Bright Berry, is shorter, more indica and a little sweeter. Among our hybrid feminized seeds, GG4 is the benchmark for resin.
Frequently asked questions about Gorilla Glue #4
Is Gorilla Glue #4 indica or sativa?
Gorilla Glue #4 is a hybrid that leans slightly indica, around 55/45. It starts with an uplifting, happy head rush and then settles into a heavy, relaxing body effect that often keeps people on the couch. The plant grows tall with a strong stretch in flower.
Why is it called Gorilla Glue #4?
It was named Gorilla Glue because its resin was so sticky that trimming scissors and gloves glued together, and #4 because it was the fourth phenotype selected. After a 2017 settlement with the adhesive maker, it is also sold as GG4 or Original Glue.
How strong is Gorilla Glue #4?
Gorilla Glue #4 usually tests between 24% and 30% THC, with CBD under 1%. It is one of the most potent classic strains. New or occasional users should start with a very small amount, since larger doses can feel overwhelming.
Is GG4 the same as Gorilla Glue?
Yes. GG4, Gorilla Glue #4 and Original Glue are the same strain. Plain Gorilla Glue usually refers to this plant too, although some seed lines sold under that shorter name are different selections, so check the listed parents of Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb and Chocolate Diesel.
Why GG4 is still the benchmark we measure other resin strains against
Dozens of newer strains promise more frost, and most of them are compared with GG4 when they do. That is why we keep it in stock and why it remains one of our most ordered feminized seeds. It ships from our Vancouver, BC seed bank in plain packaging and arrives anywhere in Canada within 3 to 7 business days. Orders over $200 ship free, and $30 covers tracking, insurance and one free reshipment if a parcel goes missing.
We have viability tested our seed in Vancouver since 2009, and the 80% germination guarantee covers GG4 when you start it with the cup of water and paper towel method in our germination guide. It comes in 5, 10 and 25 seed packs, and the 10 and 25 packs are buy one get one free, so a hash maker can double a 25 pack with another resin strain of the same size. Orders over $420 include 10 free seeds.
