Black Mamba Feminized at a glance: Black Mamba is a roughly 70/30 indica leaning cross of Granddaddy Purple and Black Domina that blooms in 8 to 9 weeks, tests 18% to 25% THC, grows 90 to 130 cm indoors and yields 350 to 500 g/m² of dense, purple to almost black buds with a grape, plum and cedar aroma.
Dark buds, chilly September nights and a Vancouver return address
The deep colour in Black Mamba depends on a temperature drop at the end of flower, and a Canadian September supplies that for free, from the Fraser Valley to the Eastern Townships. The seeds are just as close: they sit in our Vancouver, BC seed bank and travel by domestic mail in a plain envelope, arriving in 3 to 7 business days without a border or a customs officer in the way. Each lot is germination tested before sale and covered by our 80% germination guarantee, and the 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Black Mamba comes from
Black Mamba is most often described as Granddaddy Purple crossed with Black Domina, and that is the version we carry. Granddaddy Purple, a Purple Urkle and Big Bud cross from California, brings the grape candy aroma, the purple colour and a reliable, heavy body effect. Black Domina is an older indica blend built from Afghani, Northern Lights, Ortega and Hash Plant, famous for very dark leaves, hashy resin and a sedate, stony finish. The child carries both: grape on top, black hash underneath.
It is worth knowing that the name has been used for several unrelated plants over the years, including a landrace based sativa, a mint and chocolate hybrid and an autoflower built on Skunk and ruderalis genetics. If you are comparing grow reports, check that the parents match. The name itself is a nod to the fast, potent bite of the African snake, which fits the quick onset.
Black Mamba strain effects and experience
Black Mamba does not keep you waiting. The first few minutes bring a soft, euphoric glow and a noticeable easing of tension through the face and neck. People often describe the start as happy and slightly dreamy rather than energetic.
From there the Black Domina side takes over. A warm, weighted feeling spreads through the body, thoughts slow down, and by the second hour most users are ready to stay put for the night. At 18% to 25% THC it is strong without being one of the extreme modern numbers, and the effect lasts a good two to three hours. Treat it as a strain for after dinner, and start small if you are not used to indicas.
Black Mamba flavour, aroma and appearance
Open a jar and the first notes are grape skin, ripe plum and a floral, almost violet sweetness from the Granddaddy Purple mother. Behind that sits a drier layer of cedar, black pepper, damp soil and old style hash, which is the Black Domina contribution. Ground up, a faint skunk note appears. The smoke is thick and smooth, sweet on the inhale and earthy and spicy on the exhale. Limonene, caryophyllene and pinene usually lead, with myrcene close behind.
This is a striking plant to grow. Fan leaves go dark green to purple, and the buds, which are dense and roughly fist sized on the main colas, turn deep violet and sometimes close to black when nights drop to around 14 to 16 degrees. A thick coat of trichomes and orange pistils stands out against the dark calyxes.
Growing Black Mamba in Canada
Indoors
Indoors, Black Mamba is a medium sized, well branched plant with a stretch of about 1.5 times. Veg for four to five weeks and flip at 45 cm for a finished height of 90 to 130 cm. Keep the room at 22 to 26 degrees during the day and let it fall to 15 or 16 degrees at night for the final two weeks if you want the full black and purple display. It is a moderate feeder that dislikes heavy nitrogen in bloom. The dense colas are the main risk, so drop humidity to 40% to 45% from week five and avoid crowding plants. Expect a finish between day 56 and day 63.
Outdoors, by region
With an 8 to 9 week bloom, Black Mamba can finish outdoors in most populated parts of Canada. In the Fraser Valley, on Vancouver Island and in the Okanagan, harvest normally falls in the last week of September or the first week of October, and the cool coastal nights bring out the colour early. In southern Ontario and the Eastern Townships, plan for early October and a sheltered, sunny bed. Northern Ontario and the Prairies have a tighter window: germinate in the first half of April, give the plants a bright windowsill or a small light until late May, and use a pot you can move under cover if frost is forecast before the trichomes turn. The Maritimes can manage a crop with good drainage and a rain cover for the last fortnight. Our outdoor cultivation guide walks through soil, spacing and timing.
Height and training
Top once and spread four to six main branches under a single net. Black Mamba fills out evenly and rewards a flat canopy with matching colas, while untrained plants tend to put most of their weight into one central spear. Thin the interior fan leaves at the start of week three of flower and clear the lower third so air can move freely around the densest buds.
Flowering and harvest cues
Colour is not a ripeness signal here, because the purple can appear from week five. Look at the trichomes from day 54. Cloudy with 10% to 15% amber delivers the classic two stage effect, while waiting for 20% amber makes it heavier still. Dry slowly for 12 to 14 days at 58% to 62% humidity. A three week cure is when the grape and plum come forward and the raw hash bite softens.
Black Mamba yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, a screened canopy returns 350 to 500 g/m² of tight, weighty buds that keep their shape after drying. Outdoors, a plant in a 50 litre pot or good garden soil produces roughly 450 to 600 g in a full season. Yield is respectable rather than huge; growers choose Black Mamba for the colour, the dark fruit flavour and the effect, and the hashy resin also presses well for those who make their own rosin.
Who Black Mamba is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Black Mamba if you want a purple indica with real depth, enjoy the look of a dark plant in a cool autumn finish, or prefer grape and hash to the candy and cream flavours on most modern menus. Black Mamba feminized seeds are a good second or third grow for someone comfortable managing humidity.
Pick something else if you want an energetic daytime high, need the biggest possible harvest, or have no way to control moisture in a damp climate late in the season.
How Black Mamba compares
Granddaddy Purple, the mother, is fruitier and slightly lighter, with the same purple colouring. Black Domina, the father, is darker, earthier and more sedating. Purple Urkle, one step further back, shows where the grape originally came from. Grape Pie is another Granddaddy Purple descendant that leans into jam and pastry instead of hash. Among our indica feminized seeds, Black Mamba is the pick for growers who want colour and a classic stone together.
Frequently asked questions about Black Mamba
Is Black Mamba indica or sativa?
Black Mamba is an indica dominant hybrid, about 70% indica and 30% sativa in the Granddaddy Purple and Black Domina version. It starts with a happy, slightly dreamy lift and then becomes a heavy, relaxed body effect. The plant is medium height with dense, dark buds.
What strain is Black Mamba a cross of?
The most widely cited Black Mamba is Granddaddy Purple crossed with Black Domina. Granddaddy Purple comes from Purple Urkle and Big Bud, and Black Domina blends Afghani, Northern Lights, Ortega and Hash Plant. Other unrelated strains have used the same name, so always compare the listed parents.
How much THC is in Black Mamba?
Black Mamba usually tests between 18% and 25% THC, with CBD under 1%. That puts it in the strong range without reaching the extreme numbers of some newer hybrids. The effect comes on quickly and lasts around two to three hours.
How long does Black Mamba take to flower?
Black Mamba flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, about 56 to 63 days after the switch to 12 hours of light. Outdoors in Canada it finishes in late September or early October. Cool nights in the last two weeks bring out its deep purple and near black colour.
