Lilac Diesel Feminized at a glance: Lilac Diesel is a 60/40 sativa leaning hybrid that flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, tests 20% to 26% THC and yields 450 to 550 g/m² of lime green, lilac-tinted buds with a floral, lemon, cherry and diesel aroma.
Lilacs bloom across Canada in late May, which is also when this strain goes outside
When the lilac hedges flower in Ottawa, Winnipeg or Halifax, the frost risk is usually over and Lilac Diesel seedlings can go into the garden. To be ready for that date, germinate in late April, and order a week or two before that. Our seeds ship from our Vancouver, BC seed bank in plain packaging and arrive in 3 to 7 business days anywhere in the country, with no customs stop to throw off the schedule. Each lot is germination tested before it is packed and covered by our 80% germination guarantee, and the 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Lilac Diesel comes from
Lilac Diesel strain is a multi-parent hybrid that pulls together several famous flavour lines. One side combines a Silver Lemon Haze selection, itself descended from Super Silver Haze and Lemon Skunk, with Forbidden Fruit. The other side joins NYC Diesel with Cherry Pie, and a Citral Glue and ChemDi95 line adds stickiness and fuel. Sources list the haze parent as either Silver Lemon Haze or Super Lemon Haze, but the floral, citrus and diesel result is the same.
It became popular on the American East Coast in the late 2010s, and several backcrossed versions now share the name. The flavour that gave it its name is consistent across them: the sweet, purple smell of lilac blossom over diesel.
Lilac Diesel strain effects and experience
Lilac Diesel is a daytime strain. The effect starts in the head within a few minutes, a clean, cheerful lift that makes people talkative, curious and keen to get on with something. Focus is good for a sativa leaning hybrid, and the Forbidden Fruit and Cherry Pie side keeps the body comfortable without weighing it down. After two hours it fades gently rather than dropping into sleep.
With 20% to 26% THC it is strong enough for experienced users and light enough for a sensible daytime dose. Anyone prone to a racing mind with energetic strains should start small, as the haze ancestry can push the head high quickly.
Lilac Diesel flavour, aroma and appearance
The nose is unusually floral: lilac and violet first, then lemon peel, sweet cherry and tropical fruit, with a clean diesel edge that grows stronger when the bud is ground. The smoke is light and sweet, floral and citrus on the inhale and gassy on the exhale. Limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene usually lead, with floral linalool and ocimene often present in smaller amounts.
The buds are spear shaped and medium dense, lime green with pale lilac flecks in a cool finish and long orange pistils. Trichome coverage is good, and the calyxes stack neatly, giving a tidy, high quality look.
Growing Lilac Diesel in Canada
Indoors
Lilac Diesel stretches about two times after the flip, so a three to four week veg and a flip at 50 cm keeps it to 100 to 160 cm. It is a vigorous, forgiving plant that takes a medium feed and recovers quickly from training. Day temperatures of 22 to 27 degrees and humidity of 45% to 50% in flower suit it well, as the airy spears are less prone to rot than dense indica buds. Most phenotypes finish in 56 to 65 days.
Outdoors, by region
Lilac Diesel finishes in 8 to 9 weeks, which suits gardens across most of Canada. In coastal and interior BC, southern Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes, transplant in late May and harvest through the second half of September. The sativa structure dries quickly after rain, which helps on the Atlantic coast and around the Great Lakes. Prairie growers should start indoors in April and plant out once the lilacs bloom; harvest usually lands in late September, before the first hard frost in most years. Give it full sun and a large pot or in-ground bed, as outdoor plants can reach 220 cm. Our best outdoor seeds for Canada guide compares it with other September finishers.
Height and training
Top twice and spread the plant into a wide, flat canopy with low stress training; this controls the stretch and turns one tall cola into many medium ones. A trellis net set at the flip makes it easy to tuck growing tips under during the first three weeks of flower. Outdoors, a sturdy stake for the main stem helps in late summer winds. For step by step bending and tying, see our low stress training guide.
Flowering and harvest cues
Harvest when most trichomes are cloudy and a few are amber, usually between day 58 and 63. For the brightest, most energetic effect, take it at the cloudy peak. Dry for 10 to 12 days at about 60% humidity, then cure for two weeks or more; the lilac note is strongest after a month in the jar.
Lilac Diesel yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, a trained canopy produces 450 to 550 g/m². Outdoors in a sunny southern Canadian garden, a plant in the ground or a large pot gives 500 to 800 g dried, and even Prairie plants with a shorter season can reach 400 to 550 g. The spear-shaped buds are easy to trim, and the smaller lower buds make good pre-roll material.
Who Lilac Diesel is for, and who should pick something else
Lilac Diesel feminized seeds suit growers who want a daytime strain with a flavour that is neither straight lemon nor straight gas, outdoor gardeners across most of Canada who need a late September finish, and anyone who likes a creative, social high.
Choose something else if your tent is short and you would rather not manage a strong stretch, or if you want a heavy evening strain. For a calmer, fruit-led plant, Forbidden Fruit is the better pick.
How Lilac Diesel compares
Super Lemon Haze shares the lemon and the energy but is taller, slower and more haze-led. Sour Diesel is sharper, sourer and fuelier, with no floral notes. Forbidden Fruit gives the tropical and cherry side on a more relaxing, indica leaning plant. Among our sativa feminized seeds, Lilac Diesel is the floral daytime option that still finishes before the end of September.
Frequently asked questions about Lilac Diesel
What strain is Lilac Diesel?
Lilac Diesel is a sativa leaning hybrid made from several lines: Silver Lemon Haze and Forbidden Fruit on one side, NYC Diesel and Cherry Pie on another, and Citral Glue with ChemDi95. It is named for its floral lilac aroma over a diesel base.
Is Lilac Diesel a sativa or indica?
Lilac Diesel is a sativa leaning hybrid, about 60% sativa and 40% indica. Its effect is energetic, chatty and creative, with mild body comfort, which makes it better suited to the daytime than to late nights.
What does Lilac Diesel smell like?
Lilac Diesel smells floral first, like lilac and violet, then lemon peel and sweet cherry, with a clean diesel edge. Grinding a bud brings the fuel forward. The floral note is strongest after a cure of a month or so.
How long does Lilac Diesel take to flower?
Lilac Diesel flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, roughly 56 to 65 days from the switch to 12/12. Outdoors in Canada it finishes in the second half of September in most regions, which makes it a reliable choice for southern gardens and for Prairie growers who start indoors in April.
