Dulce de Uva Feminized at a glance: Dulce de Uva is a roughly 70/30 indica dominant grape dessert strain that flowers in 8 to 9.5 weeks, tests 20% to 28% THC, stays at 80 to 130 cm indoors and yields 400 to 550 g/m² of dense, sugar-coated buds that smell of grape candy, cream and caramel.
A clone-only legend, now a seed you can order from inside Canada
For years the only way to grow Dulce de Uva was to know someone with the cut, and cuttings do not travel well or legally across borders. Seeds do, and ours never have to. They wait in our Vancouver, BC seed bank, leave in a plain envelope once your payment clears, and reach Victoria, Winnipeg, Montreal or Moncton in 3 to 7 business days with no customs declaration. Every lot is checked for viability before packing and sits under our 80% germination guarantee, and the 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Dulce de Uva comes from
Dulce de Uva began as a standout cut of Grape Cream Cake, a cross of Ice Cream Cake (Gelato #33 x Wedding Cake) with a Grape Pie and Wedding Crasher hybrid. Growers in the American Southwest and Colorado kept that one plant going as a clone because it carried far more grape than its siblings, and the name followed the smell. A few strain databases list it as Grape Pie x OG Kush instead; that version describes the same flavour family, and both stories agree that Grape Pie is where the fruit comes from.
Because the original was passed around as a cutting, Dulce de Uva seeds are bred from that cut rather than copied from it. Expect most plants to show the sweet grape nose and the compact Cake structure, with a minority leaning toward the creamier vanilla side. That spread is part of the fun: pop a 10 pack and you have room to keep the jammiest mother.
The cut also proved itself as a parent. Several newer grape and dessert hybrids carry it, including our own Black Maple, which pairs Dulce de Uva with Sherbanger for darker colour and a syrupy finish.
Dulce de Uva strain effects and experience
The first few minutes are light and cheerful: a soft head buzz, a loose smile, a tendency to laugh at things that are only mildly funny. Over the next half hour the warmth spreads down into the shoulders and legs and the mood settles into easy, unhurried calm. People describe it as a late afternoon or after-dinner strain, sociable at the start and comfortably heavy by the end.
At 20% to 28% THC it carries real weight, and the Cake side means the body effect keeps building after the head buzz fades. A larger session ends on the sofa. Start with one or two draws and give it twenty minutes before deciding whether you want more.
Dulce de Uva flavour, aroma and appearance
Open a jar and the first note is grape candy, closer to grape jelly or a purple freezie than to wine. Behind it come vanilla cream, a caramel sweetness and a doughy base from the Cake genetics, and a grind releases a faint sour citrus and a whisper of gas. The smoke is smooth, sweet and fruity on the inhale, creamy and slightly spicy on the exhale. Lab results for the cut point to limonene, myrcene and caryophyllene as the lead terpenes, which fits the bright, sweet and peppery layers.
The buds are dense, tapered and so heavily frosted that they look sugared. Purple shows through the calyxes in most phenotypes, deepening when nights cool, and orange pistils curl across the surface.
Growing Dulce de Uva in Canada
Indoors
Dulce de Uva grows like a Cake cross: medium height, broad leaves, tight nodes and a modest stretch of roughly 1.5 times after the flip. A four week veg from seed and a flip at 40 to 55 cm gives 80 to 130 cm at harvest. Keep days at 23 to 27 degrees, feed at a moderate strength and back off nitrogen once the stretch ends, because excess nitrogen mutes the grape and slows the swell. Flowering takes 56 to 67 days. From week five the colas tighten fast, so run humidity at 45% or below and keep a fan moving air under the canopy.
Outdoors, by region
At 8 to 9.5 weeks of bloom, Dulce de Uva fits most Canadian summers. In the Okanagan and the Fraser Valley it finishes in the last week of September; along the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, plan on the first days of October and have a tarp ready for an early atmospheric river. Southern Ontario, the St. Lawrence valley and Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley bring it in by early October from a late May transplant. On the Prairies, germinate indoors in April so the plant goes out with some size in late May; it should finish around the end of September, and a fabric pot lets you roll it into a garage if frost arrives early. The cool nights that end every Canadian season are exactly what pulls the purple out of this strain.
Height and training
Top once at the fourth or fifth node, then use low stress training to pull the branches out flat. The tight node spacing means bud sites crowd together, and opening the plant up does more for airflow and rot prevention than for raw yield. A single trellis net is plenty.
Flowering and harvest cues
Many plants look finished at day 52 because the pistils darken early. Wait for the trichomes: mostly cloudy with 5% to 10% amber, usually day 60 to 66, gives the best balance of sweetness and body. Hang whole branches for 10 to 14 days at about 60% humidity and 17 to 19 degrees, then cure in jars for at least three weeks. The grape note gets louder every week in the jar.
Dulce de Uva yield indoors and outdoors
A trained indoor canopy returns 400 to 550 g/m² of heavy, compact flower. Outdoors, a plant in a 50 to 70 litre container or in amended ground produces 400 to 600 g dried across most of southern Canada, a little less on the Prairies where the season is shorter. Dulce de Uva is grown for flavour and looks first, but the dense structure means little is lost in the dry and almost nothing ends up as larf. Our guide to yield per plant covers how light, pot size and training shift those numbers.
Who Dulce de Uva is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Dulce de Uva if grape is your favourite flavour, if you want purple colour without a ten week bloom, or if you have a run or two behind you and can manage humidity in late flower.
Look elsewhere if you need a clear-headed daytime smoke, if your space runs humid and you cannot add dehumidification, or if this is your very first grow, where a more forgiving purple strain like Grape Pie is the gentler starting point.
How Dulce de Uva compares
Grape Pie is the source of the fruit: similar grape flavour with a more pastry-like base and a slightly quicker finish. Ice Cream Cake is the other grandparent, all vanilla and dough with much less fruit and a heavier, sleepier effect. If you want grape with fuel instead of cream, Grape Gas is the louder cousin.
