Where Pink Champagne comes from

Pink Champagne strain is widely reported as a cross of Granddaddy Purple and Cherry Pie. Granddaddy Purple brings the grape, the deep colour and the strong indica body, while Cherry Pie adds a tart cherry sweetness and a little more lift in the first hour. In older strain lists it also appears under alternative names such as Phantom, and a separate backcrossed line carries the same name, so seed versions can differ slightly from one source to another.

The origin of the name is not documented, but it is easy to guess: pink and purple hues in the buds, and a sweet, fizzy taste on the exhale that reminds many smokers of a sparkling wine. It is not related to Champagne Kush or Blue Champagne, two different strains that are often confused with it.

From seed, expect two broad types. Most plants follow the Granddaddy Purple side: short, wide and finished by day 60 with a strong grape scent. A smaller share lean toward Cherry Pie, stretching a little more and taking an extra week, with a tarter, brighter nose. Labelling plants by aroma in week five makes it easy to decide which one to keep as a mother.

Pink Champagne strain effects and experience

Pink Champagne opens with a gentle, happy lift that takes the edge off the day without making the mind race. Within half an hour the body takes over: shoulders drop, the limbs grow heavy and a quiet, contented mood sets in. It is a classic end-of-evening strain, best kept for after dinner or a slow weekend night.

THC in the high teens to mid twenties makes it strong but approachable. At larger doses the couch effect is real, so plan nothing important for the rest of the night. Dry mouth and dry eyes are the most common side effects.

Pink Champagne flavour, aroma and appearance

The aroma is sweet berry and grape first, with a soft vanilla note and a hint of tart cherry from the Cherry Pie parent. Grinding releases an earthy, slightly spicy depth. On the exhale the sweetness turns light and almost sparkling, which is probably where the name comes from. Myrcene leads the terpene mix, with limonene and caryophyllene behind it.

Buds are dense, rounded and coated in frost, with pink, lavender and deep purple tones that grow stronger when night temperatures drop. Orange pistils add contrast, and the sugar leaves often darken to near violet in the final week.

Growing Pink Champagne in Canada

Indoors

This is a straightforward indoor plant. Veg for four to five weeks and expect a finished height of 80 to 120 cm after a modest stretch. It prefers 22 to 26 degrees during the day and a 6 to 10 degree drop at night in the last three weeks, which brings out the pink and purple. The buds are dense, so keep humidity under 45% after week five and thin the interior leaves to keep air moving. Most phenotypes finish in 56 to 63 days, with the occasional plant needing up to 70.

Outdoors, by region

With an 8 to 10 week bloom, Pink Champagne is best outdoors where autumn stays mild. On Vancouver Island, in the Lower Mainland and in the Okanagan, a late May planting finishes in early to mid October. In southern Ontario, especially Niagara and the north shore of Lake Erie, it usually completes by mid October in a typical year. Quebec, the Prairies and the Atlantic provinces are riskier because the late phenotypes may meet the first frost, so a greenhouse or an indoor tent is the safer choice there. Our humidity guide explains how to protect dense buds from late season mould.

Height and training

Pink Champagne grows short and bushy, with thick side branches. Topping once and running a single trellis net produces an even canopy of six to ten main colas. The colas get heavy late in bloom, so add stakes or a second net by week six.

Flowering and harvest cues

Once the colour change starts, check trichomes every two days. Cloudy with 10% to 15% amber gives the full, relaxing effect this strain is known for. Dry slowly for 10 to 14 days, then cure in jars for at least two weeks; the vanilla and berry notes are much stronger after a proper cure.

Pink Champagne yield indoors and outdoors

A trained indoor canopy gives 400 to 500 g/m² of dense, easy-to-trim buds. Outdoors, plants in a mild coastal or southern Ontario season return 400 to 600 g each. It is not the heaviest yielder in the catalogue, but the colour, flavour and bag appeal make up for it. The trim is sticky enough for dry sift or a small batch of edibles, so very little of the plant goes to waste.

Who Pink Champagne is for, and who should pick something else

Pick Pink Champagne if you want a purple, sweet-tasting indica for evenings, if your grow space is limited in height, or if you want a calm, easy-going plant for a second or third grow. Pink Champagne feminized seeds also suit anyone who loves Granddaddy Purple but wants a brighter, fruitier flavour.

Choose something else if you need a daytime strain, a very fast harvest or a high-yield plant for a short Prairie season. Our best outdoor seeds for Canada guide lists earlier finishing options.

How Pink Champagne compares

Granddaddy Purple is the heavier, more grape-driven parent. Cherry Pie is a little livelier, with more tart fruit and less colour. Birthday Cake shares the Cherry Pie parent and swaps the grape for a vanilla frosting sweetness. Browse our indica dominant feminized seeds for more evening strains.

Frequently asked questions about Pink Champagne

Is Pink Champagne indica or sativa?

Pink Champagne is an indica dominant hybrid, usually described as 70% to 80% indica. It gives a short, happy lift followed by a heavy, calming body effect, which makes it an evening strain for most people.

What strains make Pink Champagne?

Pink Champagne is most commonly listed as a cross of Granddaddy Purple and Cherry Pie. Some older lists also call it Phantom, and a separate backcrossed line uses the same name, so seed versions may vary slightly.

What does Pink Champagne taste like?

Pink Champagne tastes of sweet berry and grape with a soft vanilla note and a hint of tart cherry. The exhale is light and sweet, often described as slightly fizzy, much like the sparkling wine it is named after.

Is Pink Champagne the same as Champagne Kush?

No, Pink Champagne and Champagne Kush are different strains. Pink Champagne comes from Granddaddy Purple and Cherry Pie and leans heavily indica, while Champagne Kush and Blue Champagne have their own separate lineages despite the similar names.
