Purple Milk Feminized at a glance: Purple Milk is a slightly indica leaning cross of Grape Gas and Horchata that flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, tests 20% to 30% THC and yields 400 to 550 g/m² of dense, lavender and plum coloured buds that smell like grape candy stirred into sweet milk.
A cold snap in late September is the best thing that can happen to this plant
Most strains tolerate a chilly Canadian autumn; Purple Milk actually improves in one. When nights dip to 10 or 12 degrees in the last two weeks, the calyxes turn from green to plum. The seeds for that show are stocked in our Vancouver, BC seed bank and travel by domestic post, so a pack ordered in March is in a drawer in Sudbury or Saskatoon within 3 to 7 business days. Each pack carries our 80% germination guarantee when you use the cup of water and paper towel method, and 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Purple Milk comes from
Purple Milk strain reached West Coast menus in the early 2020s, and the version behind the current hype is a cross of a Grape Gas S1 selection with Horchata. Grape Gas supplies the purple pigment, the grape soda nose and a sharp gas edge. Horchata, itself a Mochi Gelato and Jet Fuel Gelato cross, adds the creamy, cinnamon-sugar sweetness and the thick resin that gives the buds their frosted look. Put together, the milkiness of one parent and the purple of the other explain the name better than any marketing copy could.
Searchers will also find an older description of Purple Milk as Purple OG Kush crossed with Bubba Kush, sometimes labelled 60% sativa. That record predates the Grape Gas version and describes a plainer, earthier plant. Our pack follows the Grape Gas and Horchata recipe, which is the one dispensary buyers mean when they ask for Purple Milk today. Expect some variation between seeds: a few plants lean grape and fuel, others lean vanilla and cream, and the best keepers balance both.
Purple Milk strain effects and experience
The first wave is gentle. Most people notice a soft lift in mood and a loosening in the shoulders within ten minutes, with the head staying clear enough to hold a conversation or finish a film. Around the forty minute mark the indica side arrives properly: limbs feel warm and heavy, the pace slows and the sofa becomes very persuasive. The full session runs two to three hours and ends sleepy for most people, which is why reviewers save it for after dinner.
Lab results on the stronger phenotypes reach the high twenties, so treat the first session with respect. Dry mouth is near universal and red eyes are common. A single small dose, followed by a proper wait, is the way to judge it; taking more before the body effect arrives is the usual cause of an evening that ends earlier than planned.
Purple Milk flavour, aroma and appearance
Open a cured jar and grape candy reaches you first, followed by a cool, milky vanilla that rounds off the sharpness. Grinding releases the Grape Gas side: a quick hit of fuel and something close to purple cough drop. The smoke is smooth and creamy, grape on the inhale and sweet cream with a light spice on the exhale, a little like the dregs of a bowl of cereal. Myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene usually lead the terpene reports, with linalool showing in the more floral plants.
The buds are medium sized, tight and slightly conical, with lavender to deep plum calyxes, pale amber pistils and a coat of trichomes thick enough to look like powdered sugar. Colour depends on temperature as much as genetics. A warm room keeps the plant mostly green with purple tips; a cool finish turns the whole cola dark.
Growing Purple Milk in Canada
Indoors
Veg Purple Milk for four to five weeks and flip at around 40 cm. The stretch is moderate, roughly 1.5 to 1.8 times, so most plants finish between 80 and 130 cm. Hold 24 to 27 degrees with lights on through early bloom, then let the dark period drop to 16 to 18 degrees for the final two weeks to trigger colour. Keep humidity near 50% until week five and lower it to 40% to 45% after that, because these tight flowers trap moisture. It is a medium feeder; the Horchata side shows calcium and magnesium hunger first, so a cal-mag supplement under LED lighting is worth adding from week two of flower.
Outdoors, by region
An 8 to 9 week flower lets Purple Milk finish outdoors across most of southern Canada. In the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island, plants set out in late May are usually ready in the last week of September, and the coastal nights at that time are perfect for colour. Southern Ontario and the St. Lawrence valley tend to harvest in the first days of October. In the Okanagan and the Kootenays, dry late summers suit the dense buds well. Prairie growers should start indoors in mid April, move plants out after the last frost and choose a sheltered, south facing spot; an early October finish is realistic, but keep a sheet handy for the first hard frost.
Height and training
The plant branches evenly and responds well to a single topping at the fifth node followed by low stress training. Spread the branches into a flat canopy before the flip so the purple tops get equal light. Defoliate lightly at day 21 of flower to open airflow through the middle of the plant, and remove the weak lower sites that would only produce larf.
Flowering and harvest cues
Trichomes cloud up quickly between days 52 and 60. For the creamiest flavour and a more balanced effect, harvest when most heads are cloudy and a few are amber; for a heavier night-time result, wait until about 15% amber. Dry for 10 to 14 days at 18 degrees and 60% humidity. Purple Milk rewards a long cure: the vanilla note gets noticeably stronger between weeks two and five in the jar.
Purple Milk yield indoors and outdoors
A trained indoor canopy under a capable LED returns 400 to 550 g/m² of heavy, compact flower that trims quickly because the sugar leaves are small. Outdoors, plants in 50 to 80 litre containers or in-ground beds give 450 to 650 g each, with the top end coming from long, dry seasons on the coast and in the interior. Resin coverage is excellent, so trim and small buds make good dry sift or rosin rather than waste.
Who Purple Milk is for, and who should pick something else
Pick Purple Milk feminized seeds if you love grape flavours, want buds that look as good as they smoke, or need a calm evening strain that does not feel blunt in the first half hour. It suits growers with a harvest or two behind them who can control humidity and are happy to drop night temperatures for colour.
Choose something else if you want a daytime strain, if you are sensitive to high THC, or if your space runs warm and humid with no way to cool it at night. A lighter, more forgiving fruit hybrid will treat a first grow better.
How Purple Milk compares
Grape Gas is the purple parent, sharper and more fuel forward with less of the creamy finish. Horchata is the dessert parent, sweeter and spicier, with a slightly lighter body. Grape Soda shares the grape candy nose on a more OG shaped plant. Purple Milk sits comfortably among our hybrid feminized seeds, and if you are still deciding how many to buy for a four plant household, our guide to how many seeds to buy walks through the numbers.
Frequently asked questions about Purple Milk
What strain is Purple Milk?
Purple Milk is a hybrid made by crossing Grape Gas with Horchata, which is the version sold in most dispensaries today. An older listing describes a Purple OG Kush and Bubba Kush cross under the same name, but the grape and cream profile people search for comes from the Grape Gas and Horchata line.
Is Purple Milk indica or sativa?
Purple Milk is a hybrid that leans slightly indica, roughly 55/45. Some databases still list it as 60% sativa because of the older Purple OG Kush version, but most smokers describe a calm, relaxing effect that turns sleepy as the session goes on.
What does Purple Milk taste like?
Purple Milk tastes like grape candy with a creamy vanilla finish. Grinding brings out a light gas note from Grape Gas, and the exhale carries sweet cream and a touch of spice from Horchata. A slow two to four week cure makes the milky side much stronger.
How strong is Purple Milk strain?
Purple Milk usually tests between 20% and 30% THC, with less than 1% CBD, so it is a strong strain. The effect builds over about forty minutes, which is why a small first dose and a patient wait is the safest way to try it.
