Candy Rain Feminized at a glance: Candy Rain is a 70/30 indica leaning cross of Gelato and London Pound Cake that flowers in 9 to 10 weeks, tests 18% to 24% THC and yields 450 to 550 g/m² of dense, purple-flecked buds that smell like fruit candy and vanilla cake.

Named for rain, built for a tent: why Candy Rain belongs indoors in most of Canada

Ironically, real rain is the one thing Candy Rain cannot stand at the end of its bloom. With dense buds and an October finish, it is best grown indoors in most provinces, which also means it can be started any month of the year. Our stock is already in Vancouver, BC, so the seeds reach a tent in Montreal, Saskatoon or St. John’s in 3 to 7 business days by domestic post, never held up at a border. The envelope is plain, the pack is covered by our 80% germination guarantee, and the 10 and 25 seed sizes are buy one get one free.

Where Candy Rain comes from

Candy Rain strain comes from two of the best known dessert lines of the last decade. Gelato, itself a Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Cookies cross, gives the creamy sweetness and colourful frost. London Pound Cake, a Sunset Sherbet descendant, adds weight, purple tones and a heavier body feel. The cross was released by a well-known West Coast dessert breeding house and spread quickly under both the Candy Rain and Kandy Rain spellings.

Some sources narrow the parents down to a specific Gelato number or to London Pound Cake 97, but that detail is not consistently confirmed. The broad picture is clear: Candy Rain is a Gelato and London Pound Cake child, which means it shares Sunset Sherbet ancestry on both sides. A separate autoflowering Candy Rain exists with ruderalis genetics, lower THC and a different growth pattern; it is not the plant described here.

Candy Rain strain effects and experience

The opening is bright. Within a few minutes most people feel a rush of good mood and light euphoria, enough to make a conversation or a playlist feel more fun. Over the next half hour the London Pound Cake side brings the body down into a calm, comfortable stillness without much mental fog. Many describe the overall arc as uplifting first, relaxing second, which makes it a natural early evening strain.

At 18% to 24% THC, Candy Rain is strong but not extreme by modern standards, a welcome change for people who find 30% dessert strains overwhelming. The usual side effects apply: dry mouth, dry eyes and, after a long session, a strong interest in the snack cupboard.

Candy Rain flavour, aroma and appearance

The jar opens with a burst of mixed fruit candy, the kind of sweet that recalls a bag of assorted gummies, with orange and berry leading. Behind it sit creamy vanilla, buttery pound cake and a light, earthy spice. The smoke is smooth and sugary, finishing on citrus and cake. Limonene and ocimene often lead the terpene profile, with caryophyllene and linalool in smaller amounts; ocimene is the reason for that sweet, almost tropical lift.

Buds are dense, rounded and medium sized, with lime and forest green calyxes that pick up purple flecks when nights fall below about 16 degrees. A heavy trichome layer and bright orange pistils make it a handsome jar strain.

Growing Candy Rain in Canada

Indoors

Candy Rain is a natural indoor plant. Veg for four weeks and flip at 35 to 40 cm; it stretches about 1.5 times and usually finishes between 100 and 130 cm. Keep the room at 24 to 26 degrees with lights on and drop humidity to 40% to 45% after week five, because the Gelato and Pound Cake buds pack tightly. Lowering night temperatures by 5 to 8 degrees in the final two weeks encourages purple colour without slowing ripening. Feed at a moderate rate and watch for potassium hunger in late bloom.

Outdoors, by region

With 9 to 10 weeks of flower and dense colas, Candy Rain is an outdoor option only in the mildest parts of Canada. On the south coast of BC and Vancouver Island, plant out in late May and harvest in early to mid October, ideally under a clear roof that keeps September and October showers off the buds. In southern Ontario, Essex County and the Niagara Peninsula are the safest bets in a warm autumn. Elsewhere, including the Prairies, northern Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic region, a tent or a greenhouse will produce far better results than an open garden.

Height and training

The plant is medium sized with strong side branches. Top once or twice, spread the branches with low stress training and fill a net with six to ten tops. Remove the lowest third of growth at the flip so energy goes to the colas that see the most light.

Flowering and harvest cues

Most plants finish between day 63 and 70. Harvest when most trichomes are cloudy with 10% to 20% amber for the best balance of euphoria and calm. A slow dry of 10 to 14 days at 60% humidity protects the delicate candy terpenes, and a three to four week cure brings out the cake.

Candy Rain yield indoors and outdoors

A well-run indoor canopy produces 450 to 550 g/m², which is generous for a dessert strain. Outdoor plants on the coast return 500 to 600 g each in a good year. Because the buds are so dense, they lose less weight in the dry than airy sativa flower, and sugar leaf from the trim makes a sweet, mellow batch of edibles butter. To get a feel for what those numbers mean in your own space, see our guide on how much cannabis yields per plant.

Who Candy Rain is for, and who should pick something else

Choose Candy Rain feminized seeds if you love sweet, fruity dessert flavours, want a strain that is relaxing without being overpowering, and grow indoors or on the coast. It rewards growers who already have a harvest or two behind them and can hold humidity down in late flower.

Choose a different strain if you want an outdoor plant for a short-season region, if you prefer gas or savoury profiles, or if you want maximum potency. Beginners who need a forgiving, mould-resistant plant may want something with a looser bud structure for a first grow.

How Candy Rain compares

London Pound Cake is the heavier parent: more purple, more body and more vanilla. Gelato 33 shows the creamy, balanced Gelato side on its own. Gelato 41 is a more potent Gelato cut with extra gas. For a candy flavour with a different backbone, Candy Runtz is fruitier and more balanced. More relaxing options are listed under our indica feminized seeds.
