Bubblegum Gelato Feminized at a glance: Bubblegum Gelato is an indica leaning cross of Gelato #45 and Indiana Bubble Gum that flowers in 8 to 10 weeks, tests 18% to 24% THC and yields 450 to 550 g/m² of dense, frosty, pink-tinged buds that smell like bubblegum, cherry candy and vanilla cream.
A backyard plant that can top two metres, from a seed bank one short parcel away
Bubblegum Gelato is a dessert strain that actually wants to be big. Given a sunny corner of a Victoria or Niagara garden and a long season, it can pass two metres and fill a laundry basket. To get there, the plant needs every day of the season, so the seeds should be in hand by early spring. Ours are in our Vancouver, BC seed bank and go out in plain packaging by domestic post, so they reach Kelowna, Kitchener or Charlottetown in 3 to 7 business days. Each pack carries our 80% germination guarantee with the cup of water and paper towel method, and 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Bubblegum Gelato comes from
Bubblegum Gelato strain combines two very different ideas of sweet. Gelato #45 is one of the numbered Gelato phenotypes from the Sunset Sherbet by Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies cross, prized for creamy sherbet flavour, dense structure and heavy resin. Indiana Bubble Gum is the old Midwestern line behind the classic Bubblegum strain of the 1990s, known for a pink candy aroma and an easy, steady growth habit. Crossed together, they give a modern dessert hybrid with a nostalgic flavour, released as a feminized seed in the early 2020s.
The cross leans about 60/40 indica. Most plants follow the Gelato side in structure, with short internodes and tight, frosty buds, while the Bubble Gum side adds vigour, a little extra height outdoors and the unmistakable candy nose. Do not confuse it with Bubble Gum Gelato pre-rolls or kief products sold under the same name in some markets; those are finished products, and their makeup varies.
Bubblegum Gelato strain effects and experience
Bubblegum Gelato opens with a light, happy lift that loosens the mood and brings a smile to an ordinary evening. After twenty minutes or so, a calm, relaxing body feel spreads in, steady rather than crushing. Reviewers describe it as relaxed, uplifted and hungry, and many enjoy it with friends or a slow meal. As the session goes on, the indica side gradually takes over and it ends sleepy for most.
THC usually sits between 18% and 24%, which is strong but not extreme by current standards. That makes it a reasonable pick for people who find 30% strains too much. Dry mouth is the most common side note; a few people mention a headache or feeling anxious at large doses, so moderate amounts are best.
Bubblegum Gelato flavour, aroma and appearance
Sweet bubblegum hits first, then cherry candy and ripe berries, then the creamy, vanilla-sherbet finish that marks the Gelato side. Grinding brings out an earthy, slightly woody undertone that keeps it from tasting like pure sugar. The smoke is smooth and sweet, with bubblegum on the inhale and cream and berries on the exhale. Myrcene is usually the lead terpene, with caryophyllene, limonene and linalool rounding out the profile.
Buds are dense, round and medium sized, coated in milky trichomes and threaded with bright orange pistils. Many plants pick up pink to lavender tints on the calyxes and sugar leaves when night temperatures drop, which suits the name nicely.
Growing Bubblegum Gelato in Canada
Indoors
Bubblegum Gelato is one of the easier dessert hybrids to grow. Veg for four weeks and flip at 35 to 45 cm; expect a modest stretch to about 90 to 130 cm. Short internodes make it a natural fit for a screen of green or low stress training. Run 23 to 27 degrees during the day and keep humidity at 45% to 50% in early bloom, lowering to 40% for the last three weeks. It is a medium feeder; keep nitrogen moderate in bloom and add cal-mag under LED. The candy smell is strong, so a carbon filter is recommended.
Outdoors, by region
With 60 to 70 days of bloom and an outdoor harvest in early to mid October, Bubblegum Gelato is best suited to the mildest growing regions. On Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Lower Mainland, start indoors in April, plant out in late May and expect to harvest in the first half of October, with a rain cover ready for the final two weeks. Southern Ontario, especially Essex County, Niagara and the Lake Ontario shoreline, can finish it in early October in a good year. In interior BC, the Prairies, northern Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, grow it in a greenhouse or a tent to avoid a race with frost.
Height and training
Indoors, top once and spread the branches under a net for 8 to 12 colas. Outdoors, the plant can reach 180 to 225 cm, so give it a large container or an in-ground bed and plan for staking. Clear the lower growth before flowering and thin the interior leaves at week three of bloom to keep airflow through the dense buds.
Flowering and harvest cues
Most plants are ready between day 60 and 70. Harvest at mostly cloudy trichomes with 10% to 15% amber for the best balance of candy flavour and relaxed body. A slow 10 to 14 day dry at 60% humidity followed by a three to four week cure brings out the full bubblegum and cream profile; rushed buds often taste more earthy than sweet.
Bubblegum Gelato yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, expect 450 to 550 g/m² from a trained canopy, which is generous for a Gelato cross. Outdoors in a long coastal season, plants in large beds can give 600 g to 1 kg each, though cooler summers and smaller pots will land toward the lower end. The resin is good for hash and rosin, and the trim makes sweet, flavourful edibles.
Who Bubblegum Gelato is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Bubblegum Gelato feminized seeds if you love candy and dessert flavours, want a forgiving plant with strong yields, or have a warm coastal garden with room to let a plant spread. It works well for beginners who have one harvest behind them and for experienced growers chasing flavour.
Choose something else if you need an outdoor plant that finishes in September in a cold region, want a sharp daytime sativa, or prefer gas and fuel over sweet profiles.
How Bubblegum Gelato compares
Gelato shows the creamy, frosty parent line on its own, with more sherbet and less candy. Bubblegum is the classic candy parent, easier and lighter with more pure gum flavour. Gelato 33 is a numbered sibling of the Gelato #45 parent, a little stronger and more balanced. Black Cherry Gelato pairs Gelato cream with dark fruit. Is Bubblegum Gelato indica or sativa?
Bubblegum Gelato is an indica leaning hybrid, around 60% indica and 40% sativa. It starts with a light, happy lift and settles into a calm, relaxed body feel that turns sleepy later in the session, so most people enjoy it in the evening.
How strong is Bubblegum Gelato?
