Where Candy Gas comes from

Candy Gas was made by reversing a Gelato 41 plant, also known as Bacio Gelato, so that it produced pollen, then using that pollen on a selected Runtz mother. Because both parents are Zkittlez and Gelato descendants, the cross is more uniform than most two-parent hybrids, and the resulting seed line spread quickly through California and then Michigan dispensaries in the early 2020s.

There is a naming wrinkle worth knowing. An older, unrelated strain from a Kandy Kush and OG #18 cross is sold as Gas Candy, and some menus list it as Candy Gas as well. Choose a spot that gets full afternoon sun and moving air, and have a rain cover ready for the last two weeks. In Quebec and the Maritimes, the faster phenotypes can finish in a warm fall, but a greenhouse or hoop house is the safer choice because October rain lands right on the dense colas. Height and training

Candy Gas has strong lateral branches and takes topping and low stress training well. Top twice in veg for eight main colas, spread them under a net, and remove the inner growth that will never see light. A second net at the end of the stretch keeps the heaviest colas upright. It forgives a little overtraining better than Runtz on its own.

Flowering and harvest cues

Watch the plant rather than the calendar. Candy-leaning phenotypes show swollen calyxes and cloudy trichomes around day 58, while gassy phenotypes are still building resin at that point. Harvest when trichomes are mostly cloudy with the first 5% to 10% amber. Dry slowly at 16 to 18 degrees for about two weeks; the candy terpenes are volatile, and a warm, fast dry leaves only the diesel behind.
