Black Runtz Strain Feminized Marijuana Seeds

Price range: $65.00 through $240.00

Black Runtz strain is the darkest selection to come out of the Runtz line, a Zkittlez and Gelato hybrid picked for buds that finish closer to aubergine than green. It tests 22% to 28% THC, runs 8 to 9 weeks of flower, and stays under 130 cm in a tent, which makes it one of the easier ways to put a genuinely striking jar on the shelf. The candy and berry flavour of ordinary Runtz is still there, with a deeper grape note and a peppery finish behind it. Every seed is feminized, viability tested in our Vancouver seed bank, and shipped inside Canada in 3 to 7 business days.

Black Runtz Feminized at a glance: Black Runtz strain is a 55/45 hybrid that flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, tests 22% to 28% THC, yields 450 to 550 g/m², and turns near black in a cool finish while tasting of berry candy, grape and citrus zest.

Purple needs cold nights, and Canada has plenty of those

Black Runtz strain owes its look to anthocyanin, and anthocyanin needs the kind of September night that most of this country gets for free. What Canadian growers usually cannot get for free is the seed: overseas orders arrive late, if at all. Ours are already here. They leave our Vancouver, BC seed bank in plain packaging the day payment clears, cross no border on the way to Winnipeg or St. John’s, and land in 3 to 7 business days. Each batch is viability tested in the building before it is packed, backed by our 80% germination guarantee, and every 10 and 25 seed pack is buy one get one free.

Where Black Runtz comes from

Black Runtz strain is not a separate cross so much as a decision. Growers working the Zkittlez and Gelato line that produced Runtz kept selecting the plants that coloured hardest, and after a few rounds the dark phenotype was stable enough to be sold under its own name. The genetics underneath are the same Runtz parents: Zkittlez for the tropical candy sweetness and the low, bushy frame, Gelato for the creamy dessert body and the resin.

What changed is how the plant finishes. An ordinary Runtz colours in patches. This one goes uniformly dark from the top down in the final fortnight, deep violet through to something close to black at the calyx tips, with the trichome layer sitting over it like frost on a plum. The effect leans slightly to the indica side, about 55/45, but nothing about the experience feels heavy until the second hour.

Black Runtz strain effects and experience

The first twenty minutes are brighter than the colour suggests: a clear mood lift, a bit of chatter, and the sort of mild focus that makes tidying the grow room feel reasonable. Around the half hour mark the Gelato side arrives and the shoulders drop. From there it settles into a long, comfortable middle, relaxed and sociable rather than sedated, with a reliable appetite.

At 22% to 28% THC it is strong enough to respect. The onset is quick, so the usual mistake is underestimating how long the tail runs. Two hours later most people are still pleasantly softened.

Black Runtz flavour, aroma and appearance

Dry, the jar smells like a handful of fruit chews: sugary berry, a little grape, citrus peel over the top. Grinding it releases something sharper and gassier underneath, and the smoke splits the difference. Inhale is sweet berry and cream, exhale turns peppery from the caryophyllene, with limonene holding a lemon-lime brightness throughout and myrcene filling the soft, fruity base.

The buds are small to medium, round and packed hard. Colour arrives late, so a plant that looks ordinary at day 45 can be unrecognisable by day 60. Orange pistils against the dark calyxes sharpen the contrast further.

Growing Black Runtz in Canada

Indoors

This is a short, wide plant with tight internodes, which is exactly what most Canadian tents want. Veg four weeks from seed, flip around 45 cm, and a stretch of roughly 1.4 times brings it in at 90 to 130 cm. It is a light to moderate feeder and shows nutrient burn on the leaf tips before it shows anything else, so build up slowly. Run the room at 23 to 26 degrees through the first half of flower, then drop night temperatures to 16 or 17 degrees from week six: that gap is what pulls the colour. Keep humidity under 45% at the end, because the buds are dense enough to hold moisture in the core.

Outdoors, by region

An 8 to 9 week flower puts Black Runtz within reach of most of the country. On the BC coast and in southern Ontario it finishes in the last week of September or the first week of October, with the cool nights doing the colour work for you. Quebec and the Maritimes can bring it in by the first week of October from a late May transplant in a sheltered, south-facing spot. Prairie growers should start indoors in early April so the plant has real size by the time it goes out at the end of May, which usually lands harvest in the last days of September ahead of a hard frost. The plant is short enough to cover on a bad night, which is a practical advantage a two metre sativa cannot offer.

Height and training

Top once at the fourth node and spread the branches with low stress training rather than a heavy screen. Black Runtz throws a flat, even canopy of eight to twelve colas, and the job is opening the middle so air moves through it. Strip the lowest growth at the flip and leave the rest alone; there is not enough spare growth here to survive heavy defoliation.

Flowering and harvest cues

The colour change and the resin swell both land in the final two weeks, which is also when the plant looks most finished to an impatient eye. Start checking trichomes at day 54. Cloudy heads with the first few amber, usually day 58 to 63, keeps the effect balanced; waiting for 15% amber pushes it noticeably sleepier. Dry slowly at 18 degrees for 12 to 14 days, then jar at 62% humidity. The candy notes are muted straight off the plant and come forward properly after two weeks of cure.

Black Runtz yield indoors and outdoors

A trained canopy indoors returns 450 to 550 g/m², and the density means the dry weight holds up better than the bud size suggests. Outdoors in a full BC or Ontario season a plant in a 50 to 60 litre pot gives 500 to 650 g dried. Resin coverage is high enough that the trim is worth keeping for hash, and our guide to yield per plant explains how to estimate what is coming before you cut. For the footprint it occupies, Black Runtz is one of the more efficient plants in the catalogue.

Who Black Runtz is for, and who should pick something else

Grow Black Runtz seeds if you want the best-looking jar you can produce at home, if your tent is short, or if you like the Runtz flavour and want a version that colours properly in a Canadian autumn. It is forgiving enough for a second grow and worth keeping in rotation after that.

Pick something else if you want a heavy knockout indica for sleep, where Slurricane goes considerably further; if you need maximum weight per plant; or if colour genuinely does not matter to you, in which case a plainer, cheaper strain will do the same job.

How Black Runtz compares

Runtz is the same family and a slightly larger plant, sweeter and less peppery, with colour that comes in patches rather than across the whole bud. Zkittlez, on the parent side, is fruitier and calmer with lower THC, and Gelato brings the creamy half of the flavour on a taller frame. Among our hybrid feminized seeds this is the colour pick, and it sits beside Mochi for anyone building a dessert-flavoured tent.

Frequently asked questions about Black Runtz

Is Black Runtz indica or sativa?

Black Runtz is a hybrid with a slight indica lean, roughly 55% indica and 45% sativa. It comes from the same Zkittlez and Gelato pairing as Runtz, selected for dark colour. The first half hour is bright and sociable, and the indica side arrives after that as a relaxed body feeling rather than sedation.

What is the difference between Runtz and Black Runtz?

Black Runtz is a dark-finishing selection from the Runtz line rather than a different cross, so the parents are the same. In practice Black Runtz colours uniformly deep purple to near black in the last two weeks, stays a little shorter, and carries a stronger peppery and grape note behind the berry candy that both share.

How strong is Black Runtz?

Black Runtz tests between 22% and 28% THC with CBD under 0.5%. The onset is quick, within a few minutes, and the effect runs long, commonly two to three hours. It is potent enough that a small session is usually enough, and it suits people who already smoke regularly.

Can I grow Black Runtz outdoors in Canada?

Yes, in most regions. It flowers in 8 to 9 weeks and finishes outdoors between late September and the first week of October in BC, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. Prairie growers should start seeds indoors in early April and plant out at the end of May to beat the first hard frost.
