Where Donny Burger comes from

Donny Burger is GMO crossed with Han Solo Burger, and Han Solo Burger is itself GMO crossed with Larry OG. That makes GMO both parent and grandparent, which is the point: it concentrates the garlic and diesel that made GMO notorious while Larry OG adds lemon, structure and a cleaner finish. It comes out of Skunk House Genetics and has circulated widely since the early 2020s.

Growers usually meet the name before the plant. The most repeated story is that it refers to Donny Berger, the character Adam Sandler plays in the 2012 film That's My Boy, the evidence being that the character's son is named Han Solo Berger, which lines up with the parent strain. The breeder has never confirmed it, so treat it as a good story rather than a fact.

Donny Burger strain effects and experience

The first fifteen minutes are heavier than the THC number suggests, arriving as warmth across the shoulders and a slow disconnection from whatever you were hurrying about. What is unusual is that the weight does not fog the head: people report staying present enough for a film or a conversation while the body has plainly clocked off, which is why it reads as calming rather than knockout. It runs long, commonly two to three hours.

At 25% to 30% THC this is a high tolerance strain. Anyone stepping up from 18% or 20% flower should treat one small session as the whole experiment on the first evening.

Donny Burger flavour, aroma and appearance

The aroma is savoury and aggressive: roasted garlic and onion first, then black pepper, aged cheese, lemon rind and a diesel undertow. Caryophyllene drives the pepper, limonene the citrus lift, myrcene the earthy base. It tastes close to how it smells, and the exhale is where the Larry OG lemon shows up and stops it being pure funk. Visually it is one of the most striking plants we stock, and not because of colour. The buds are pale, chunky and so covered in trichomes that the green underneath barely shows, with sparse orange pistils poking out of what looks like a coating of flour. That resin load is why concentrate makers hunt it down.

Indoors

Plan for size. Donny Burger roughly doubles after the flip, so veg three weeks and flip at 40 cm unless your ceiling is generous, which still lands you at 110 to 170 cm. It is a hungry plant that takes a strong feed in stride and prefers a warm room at 24 to 27 degrees. Flowering runs 63 to 70 days and the final fortnight is where the resin and the weight both arrive. Keep humidity under 45% from week six and move air through the middle of the plant, not just above it, because the colas thicken enough to trap moisture in the centre.

Outdoors, by region

A mid October finish makes this a coastal BC plant outdoors and nothing else. On the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, start indoors in late March, transplant in late May, and cut in the second week of October with a rain cover standing by. Southern Ontario works only in a greenhouse or with a light deprivation tarp pulled in early August. In Quebec, on the Prairies and across the Atlantic provinces there is no realistic outdoor window, and the honest advice is to run it in a tent. Height and training

Top twice and run a screen, because left alone the plant builds one dominant spear and leaves the lower branches underdeveloped. Tie the main branches out in the first two weeks of flower while they still bend, since they lignify fast and will snap rather than move afterwards. Outdoors, stake every major cola by week six, because these buds get heavy enough to break a branch in an October storm.

Flowering and harvest cues

Donny Burger looks finished long before it is. The frost arrives early and the pistils recede by week seven, which pulls growers into cutting at day 56 and losing a quarter of the yield. Check the heads with a loupe from day 63 and harvest at 10% to 15% amber, usually day 66 to 70. Dry for a full two weeks at 17 to 18 degrees, then cure for at least three, over which the raw onion sharpness of a fresh jar mellows into roasted garlic, pepper and lemon. The gap between a two week and a five week cure is larger here than on anything else in this batch.

Indoors, a screened canopy given the full 70 days returns 500 to 600 g/m² of dense rather than fluffy weight. A full-season coastal BC plant in a 70 litre pot brings in 600 to 800 g dried. The more relevant number for many growers is the extract return: the trichome coverage puts it among the best strains in the catalogue for hash and rosin, and the sugar leaf is worth washing rather than composting.
