Black Amber Strain Feminized Marijuana Seeds

Price range: $65.00 through $240.00

Black Amber strain earns its name in the last weeks of bloom, when the buds turn near-black and the resin glows a deep amber. It is an indica dominant hybrid, most often traced to GMO crossed with OZ Kush BX2, testing 20% to 30% THC with an earthy, sweet and peppery aroma and a slow, heavy evening effect. It flowers in 8 to 9 weeks and stays compact indoors. Our Black Amber feminized seeds are already in Canada and ship from Vancouver, BC in 3 to 7 business days.

Black Amber Feminized at a glance: Black Amber is an indica dominant hybrid, usually listed as GMO x OZ Kush BX2, that flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, tests 20% to 30% THC, and yields 400 to 500 g/m² of dense, purple-black buds with an earthy, peppery and lightly sweet nose.

Dark buds for the shortest days of autumn, from a seed bank on the Pacific

By mid October most of Canada is losing three minutes of daylight a day, and that is when Black Amber looks its best: cool nights pull the colour toward black and the resin toward amber. To get there, the seeds have to be in the ground or the tent on time, and ours are already in the country. They leave our Vancouver, BC seed bank in plain packaging, travel by domestic post only, and reach any province in 3 to 7 business days. Every lot is tested before packing, covered by our 80% germination guarantee, and 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.

Where Black Amber comes from

Black Amber strain is a small-batch American cross, and its family tree depends on who you ask. The version supported by most strain databases and retail listings is GMO crossed with OZ Kush BX2, a backcrossed Kush line. A minority of grow guides describe it as Dark Knight x Purple Kush, and at least one says the breeder never published the pedigree at all. The GMO version fits what growers see best: savoury depth, very high resin and a plant that holds its shape.

Nobody has given an official reason for the name, but it is easy to read: “black” for the purple-black colour the buds take on late in bloom, and “amber” for the honey-toned resin that coats them when the trichomes ripen.

Black Amber strain effects and experience

The effect starts quietly. In the first ten minutes there is a calm, slightly clear-headed feeling that some people find good for music or a film. Between 45 and 90 minutes the body side builds into a deep, heavy relaxation that settles in the limbs and makes moving around feel optional.

At higher doses Black Amber becomes strongly sedating, so it is very much an after-dinner strain. The snack cupboard tends to get attention. Expect dry mouth and dry eyes, and keep the first session small, especially with a crop near the top of its THC range.

Black Amber flavour, aroma and appearance

The nose is earthy and woody first, with a black pepper sharpness that comes from caryophyllene. Underneath sits a sweet, slightly grape-like note and, in some phenotypes, a savoury edge or a hint of diesel inherited from the GMO side. Smoked, it is smooth and earthy with a cocoa and pine finish. Myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene lead most profiles, with humulene and linalool in smaller amounts.

Visually, it is one of the darkest plants you can grow. Buds start forest green and move toward deep purple and near black in the last two to three weeks, with copper-orange pistils and trichomes that turn amber at full ripeness.

Growing Black Amber in Canada

Indoors

Black Amber is compact and bushy, which makes it a good fit for small tents and a screen of green. Veg for four to five weeks, fill the net, and expect a final height of 80 to 130 cm. It likes a warm day of 24 to 26 degrees and a cooler night; a drop of 6 to 8 degrees in the last fortnight is what triggers the dark colour. The buds are tight, so keep humidity at 40% to 45% from week six and remove interior leaves that block airflow. Harvest falls between day 56 and day 63.

Outdoors, by region

An 8 to 9 week bloom lets Black Amber finish across much of Canada. In the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys, dry autumns and cold nights suit it perfectly, with harvest in late September. In southern Ontario and the Ottawa Valley, a late May planting is usually ready in early October. Northern Ontario and the Prairies need an indoor start in April and a sheltered, sunny spot, with harvest in the first two weeks of October before the hard frosts. In wetter areas such as the BC coast and Nova Scotia, plan for a rain cover in the final three weeks, because dense buds and long wet spells do not mix.

Height and training

A single topping at the fifth node and a light defoliation at the flip are all this plant needs. Its branches are short and strong, so the canopy fills evenly and rarely needs extra support. Bending the main stem in veg helps spread the bud sites in a small space.

Flowering and harvest cues

Colour can fool you here; the buds darken before they are ripe. Use a loupe from day 55 and wait for most trichomes to turn cloudy with 10% to 20% amber, which fits the heavy, sleepy character of the strain. Dry for 10 to 14 days at 60% humidity and cure for at least three weeks; the sweet notes take time to come forward.

Black Amber yield indoors and outdoors

Expect 400 to 500 g/m² indoors from a trained canopy, with very little lost to trim. Outdoors, a healthy plant in a 50 to 70 litre pot or in the ground gives 450 to 600 g in a good season. The resin coverage also makes Black Amber a strong choice for anyone who presses rosin or makes hash, where the return on trim and smaller buds is unusually good.

Who Black Amber is for, and who should pick something else

Grow Black Amber if you want a dark, striking plant for an evening jar, if your space is limited, or if you garden somewhere with cool autumn nights that bring out colour. Its forgiving structure suits newer growers, while the resin and potency keep experienced growers interested.

Pick something else if you want a bright, fruity daytime strain or if you are sensitive to heavy sedation. A citrus sativa from our sativa dominant feminized seeds range is a better fit for daytime.

How Black Amber compares

GMO, its likely parent, is far more savoury and garlicky, takes longer to flower and grows taller. Purple Kush, named in the alternative lineage, shares the dark colour and the heavy body effect with a simpler, earthy grape flavour. Black Domina is the old-school dark indica in the same mould. Our indica dominant feminized seeds range has more evening options.

Frequently asked questions about Black Amber

Is Black Amber indica or sativa?

Black Amber is an indica dominant hybrid, generally put at 60% to 70% indica. A few sources call it balanced, but its compact build, dense buds and heavy evening effect all point toward the indica side.

What are the parents of Black Amber?

Black Amber is most often listed as GMO crossed with OZ Kush BX2. A smaller number of guides give Dark Knight x Purple Kush instead. The GMO lineage is the one supported by most strain databases and retail listings.

How much THC does Black Amber have?

Black Amber usually tests between 20% and 30% THC, with CBD under 1%. Grow guides often quote the low twenties, while lab-tested retail batches have reached the high twenties, so it should be treated as a strong strain.

Is Black Amber good for sleep?

Black Amber is a strongly relaxing evening strain, and many people use it at the end of the day. The body effect builds over the first hour and becomes heavy at higher doses, so it is not a good choice before anything that needs focus.
