In short

Apple Fritter strain is a near 50/50 hybrid that flowers in 8 to 10 weeks, tests 22% to 28% THC, and gives 400 to 500 g/m² of chunky, lime-green buds with a sweet apple, vanilla dough and pepper profile led by caryophyllene and limonene.

Where Apple Fritter comes from

The Apple Fritter strain is a cross of Sour Apple and Animal Cookies. Sour Apple, a Sour Diesel descendant, brought the tart green-apple top note and a little of the diesel family's zip. Animal Cookies, a Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG cross, supplied the dense, frosty cookie structure, the pepper and dough base and most of the strength. It was a West Coast clone for years before seeds were common, and it earned its reputation when it appeared on a High Times list of the world's strongest strains in 2016.

The name describes the jar better than most. A good cure smells like a bakery case: fried dough, green apple, cinnamon-adjacent spice and a sugary vanilla finish. Most lists call it a true 50/50 hybrid, and a few put it slightly on the indica side at 60/40; the plants we have seen sit comfortably between the two.

Apple Fritter strain effects and experience

The first twenty minutes are the cheerful part. There is a warm, talkative lift and a sense of everything being slightly funnier than it was, without the edgy, racing quality some high-THC sativas carry. As the hour goes on the Animal Cookies side takes over with a steady, heavy calm through the shoulders and legs, and by the second hour most people are content to sit and stay put.

Because the ceiling is high, the dose matters more than the time of day. A small amount is sociable and easy; a large one is a quiet evening whether you planned one or not. People new to strains in this range should start low and wait a full thirty minutes before adding more.

Apple Fritter flavour, aroma and appearance

Caryophyllene leads, which is where the pepper and bakery warmth come from, with limonene brightening the apple peel and myrcene rounding the sweetness into something closer to fruit filling than candy. Grind a bud and the tart apple jumps first; the exhale is doughy and faintly vanilla, with a hint of diesel from the Sour Apple side that shows up more on some plants than others.

The buds are chunky and round rather than long, lime green with a heavy frost that greys the surface, and they carry thin orange pistils that curl flat by harvest. Cool nights in the final fortnight can bring a faint lavender tint to the sugar leaves on some phenotypes, though this is a green strain first.

Growing Apple Fritter in Canada

Indoors

Apple Fritter is a compact grower. Three to four weeks of veg and a flip at 40 to 50 cm usually gives a finished plant of 80 to 130 cm, which suits a 60 x 60 or 80 x 80 tent well. It likes warmth, 23 to 27 degrees in lights-on hours, and a moderate feed; it burns faster than it starves, so start at about three quarters of the label rate and read the leaf tips. Keep humidity at 50% through early flower and bring it down toward 45% from week five, because the round colas hold moisture in their centres.

Outdoors, by region

With an 8 to 10 week flower and a finish in early to mid October, Apple Fritter is a coastal BC and southern Ontario plant outdoors. On Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Fraser Valley, start indoors in late April, plant out after the last frost and give it a spot with full sun and moving air; a rain cover over the last two weeks is worth rigging. Around Windsor, Niagara and the Toronto region it finishes in the first half of October in a normal year. In the Okanagan, Quebec, the Prairies and the Maritimes, grow it in a greenhouse or a tent and choose a shorter strain for open ground.

Height and training

Because it stays short, Apple Fritter repays a flat, wide canopy more than extra height. Top once at the fourth node, then pull the branches outward with low stress ties over the last week of veg, aiming for eight evenly lit tops. The side branching is strong enough that a screen is optional; a single trellis net keeps the heavy tops upright in weeks seven to nine.

Flowering and harvest cues

Some phenotypes are ready at day 56 and others want the full 70, so let the trichomes decide rather than the calendar. Start checking at day 54 and cut when the heads are mostly cloudy with 5% to 10% amber for the brightest version of the effect, or at 15% amber for a heavier one. Dry for 10 to 14 days at around 60% humidity; the apple note fades if the dry is rushed and comes back strongly after three weeks in the jar.

Apple Fritter yield indoors and outdoors

A trained indoor canopy returns 400 to 500 g/m², and the density of the buds means the weight holds up well after drying. Outdoors on the coast, a plant in a 50 to 70 litre container brings in 450 to 600 g. Those are solid middle-of-the-range figures rather than chart-topping ones; the real return is quality per gram and a resin load that presses well into rosin.

Who Apple Fritter is for, and who should pick something else

Grow Apple Fritter feminized seeds if you want a dessert strain with a real flavour identity, a plant that fits a small tent, and potency near the top of the catalogue. It rewards growers on their second or third run who can manage humidity in late flower.

Pick something else if you need a quick outdoor finish in a short-season province, if you want the heaviest possible harvest, or if you prefer a lighter daytime strain. For an easier apple-flavoured plant, Green Apple Pie is gentler to grow and gentler in effect.

How Apple Fritter compares

Girl Scout Cookies is the grandparent through Animal Cookies and shows where the frost and pepper came from, with less fruit and a more sativa-tilted start. OG Kush sits behind Fire OG and explains the heavy second hour. Gelato is the nearest dessert rival, creamier and less tart. Among our hybrid feminized seeds Apple Fritter is the bakery pick, and our high THC seeds guide places it next to the other strains we ship at 25% and up. If you like the green apple note but want banana and gas alongside it, Apples and Bananas is the fruitier, taller option. To grow the tart parent behind the apple note, Sour Apple brings Sour Diesel fuel and a quicker 7 to 9 week finish.

Why Apple Fritter seeds make more sense than chasing a clone-only cut

For years the only way to grow Apple Fritter was to know someone with a cutting, and a cutting carries whatever pests and viruses its mother picked up. Seeds start clean, and a pack of feminized seeds from MJ Seeds Canada lets you pick the plant whose apple note you like best. They leave our Vancouver, BC seed bank in plain, unbranded packaging and arrive in 3 to 7 business days anywhere in Canada; orders over $200 ship free, and the $30 tracked and insured option includes one free reshipment if the parcel goes missing.

We have been sending seeds out from Vancouver since 2009 and test every batch for viability before it is listed. Germinate with the cup of water and paper towel method in our germination guide and your pack is covered by the 80% germination guarantee. Choose 5, 10 or 25 seeds; the 10 and 25 packs are buy one get one free with any other strain of the same size, and an order over $420 comes with 10 extra seeds.

Checkout takes Interac e-Transfer, credit card, Bitcoin or cash. If your plants are foxtailing in week eight and you want a second opinion, call, email, message us on WhatsApp or open live chat; our team is there seven days a week.

Questions about Apple Fritter

01Is Apple Fritter indica or sativa?

Apple Fritter is a hybrid, usually described as a balanced 50/50, with some sources putting it at 60% indica. It comes from Sour Apple and Animal Cookies. The effect opens bright and social, then settles into a heavier body calm over the second hour.

02How strong is the Apple Fritter strain?

Apple Fritter is strong: most well grown crops test between 22% and 28% THC, and the best cuts go higher. It appeared on a High Times list of the world's strongest strains in 2016. New users should take a small amount and wait half an hour before having more.

03What does Apple Fritter taste like?

Apple Fritter tastes like its name, a tart green apple over fried dough and vanilla glaze, with a peppery cookie finish. Caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene are the main terpenes. The apple is sharpest after a slow dry and a cure of at least two to three weeks.

04How long does Apple Fritter take to flower?

Apple Fritter flowers in 8 to 10 weeks indoors, or 56 to 70 days from the switch to 12/12, depending on phenotype. Outdoors it finishes in early to mid October, which suits coastal BC and southern Ontario. Elsewhere in Canada a greenhouse or tent is the safer choice.
