A grape hybrid for gardens from Kelowna to Kingston, shipped from BC
Pink Certz flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, short enough for gardens well beyond the mild West Coast, and the seeds start their trip from that coast anyway. They are stocked in our Vancouver, BC seed bank and sent by domestic mail in a blank envelope, so they reach Kingston, Saskatoon, Fredericton or Trois-Rivières in 3 to 7 business days without a customs check. Each lot is tested for viability before it is listed and protected by our 80% germination guarantee, and the 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Pink Certz comes from
Pink Certz strain is a modern California cross of two gas-and-candy lines. On one side is The Menthol, a Gelato 45 selection bred to a White Diesel, High Octane and Jet Fuel blend, which gives the strain its cool, almost mentholated finish. On the other is Grape Gasoline, a cross of Grape Pie and Jet Fuel Gelato that layers purple grape candy over a sharp petrol edge. Every listing that names the parents agrees on that pairing, which is rarer than it should be for a strain this popular.
Nobody involved has explained the name publicly, but it is easy to guess: a mint parent, a candy-coloured finish and a name that sounds like the classic breath mint. A cut of Pink Certz took first place at a San Francisco cultivation competition in 2022, and the strain has since been used to make newer crosses such as Congo Certz and Stinky Pinky. Growers also trade notes on numbered phenotypes like #1, #3 and #4, which differ mainly in whether mint or grape leads.
Pink Certz strain effects and experience
Pink Certz is one of the more usable strains in the gas-candy category. The opening is clear and bright, a quick lift in mood with a gentle boost in focus that suits cooking, music or a long walk. Over the next hour a soft body ease builds underneath without pulling the head down, and it is usually the third hour before any real heaviness shows up.
That balance makes it popular for late afternoons and early evenings. With THC from 22% to 28%, and some top lots reported above 30%, it is still a strong strain, and the clean start can make it tempting to go back for more too early. Leave at least twenty minutes between the first puff and the second.
Pink Certz flavour, aroma and appearance
The nose is grape candy and fresh lemon first, then a cold mint that grows stronger as the bud is broken. Underneath sits a thin line of fuel from the Jet Fuel side, plus some pine and sweet berry. On the inhale it tastes like grape pop with lemon zest; on the exhale the menthol arrives and lingers on the tongue, which is why some smokers call it frozen lemonade. Limonene, beta-caryophyllene and linalool are the terpenes reported most often, sometimes with myrcene, and total terpene levels commonly sit between 1.5% and 3%.
Buds are dense and rounded, lime to emerald green, and in a cool finish they take on lavender, pink or deep purple tones that give the frost a rosy cast. Orange pistils thread through the trichome cover. Some phenotypes stay green and gold instead, so do not judge a plant by colour alone.
Growing Pink Certz in Canada
Indoors
Pink Certz is forgiving for a hype strain, and it suits growers on their first or second dessert run. Veg three to four weeks from seed and flip at 45 to 55 cm; a stretch of around 1.5 times brings most plants to 90 to 150 cm. Run 24 to 28 degrees during the day in bloom, with a 5 degree drop at night from week six if you want the pink and lavender to show. It takes a moderate feed and shrugs off small pH swings, but cut nitrogen once the stretch ends so the grape terpenes are not buried. Keep humidity near 50% early in bloom and 40% to 45% in the last three weeks.
Outdoors, by region
An 8 to 9 week bloom means Pink Certz can finish outdoors across most of southern Canada. The Okanagan, the Kootenays and the Fraser Valley usually harvest in the final week of September. Southern Ontario, the Eastern Townships and the Saint John River valley can expect the first days of October from a late May planting in full sun. Coastal BC gardens finish around the same time but need a rain plan for the last two weeks. On the Prairies, start the seed indoors in mid April under a light, move the plant outside in late May once frost risk passes, and pick in the last days of September; a fabric pot lets you wheel it into a garage on a cold night. Our best outdoor seeds for Canada guide compares other strains that finish on a similar schedule.
Height and training
The plant branches evenly and responds well to topping once at the fourth node, followed by low stress training to spread the arms. A single trellis net is usually enough to hold a flat canopy of eight to ten colas. Thin the interior lightly around day 21 of flower to keep air moving through the dense, rounded buds, and tuck any fan leaves shading the lower sites.
Flowering and harvest cues
Trichomes on Pink Certz cloud over quickly from about day 54. Harvest at mostly cloudy with 5% amber for the brightest, most focused effect, or wait for 15% amber if you prefer a heavier finish. The mint fades if the drying room is warm, so dry for 10 to 14 days at 16 to 18 degrees and 58% to 62% humidity, then cure in jars for at least two weeks. The grape and menthol come back sharper after a month.
Pink Certz yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, a trained canopy gives 450 to 600 g/m², and experienced growers with a tuned room report more. Outdoors, a full-season plant in a 50 litre pot or garden bed produces roughly 450 to 750 g of dried flower, a little less on the Prairies. The buds trim cleanly, and the heavy frost means the sugar leaves are worth saving for hash or edibles.
Who Pink Certz is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Pink Certz seeds if you want a strain that tastes like candy but smokes clear enough for the afternoon, if you are after colour without a ten week bloom, or if you garden outdoors anywhere from the Okanagan to the Maritimes. It is a good pick for a second grow.
Choose something else if you want a pure couch strain, or if you dislike mint and fuel notes altogether. Growers who just want straight grape without the cooling finish may prefer Grape Pie, a grandparent of this strain.
How Pink Certz compares
Grape Gas, sold elsewhere as Grape Gasoline, is the actual parent: louder fuel, no mint, and a heavier body. Jet Fuel Gelato sits a generation further back and brings kerosene, cream and a longer bloom. Our hybrid feminized seeds include more balanced strains that suit both the afternoon and the evening.
Frequently asked questions about Pink Certz
What is Pink Certz a cross of?
Pink Certz is a cross of The Menthol and Grape Gasoline. The Menthol comes from Gelato 45 and a White Diesel, High Octane and Jet Fuel blend, while Grape Gasoline is Grape Pie crossed with Jet Fuel Gelato. Together they give the strain its grape, mint and fuel flavour.
Is Pink Certz indica or sativa?
Pink Certz is a balanced hybrid that leans slightly indica, roughly 50/50 to 55/45. It starts clear and uplifting, then adds a relaxed body feeling over the next hour, so it suits afternoons and early evenings.
What does Pink Certz taste like?
Pink Certz tastes like grape candy and lemon on the inhale, with a cool mint finish and a thin line of fuel underneath. Many smokers compare it to frozen lemonade. The mint is most noticeable after a slow, cool dry and a cure of at least two weeks.
How long does Pink Certz take to flower?
Pink Certz takes 8 to 9 weeks to flower indoors, about 56 to 65 days from the switch to 12 hours of light. Outdoors in Canada it is ready from late September to early October, which lets it finish in most southern regions and on the Prairies with an April indoor start.
