Where Super Runtz comes from

Super Runtz is a California cross of Runtz, the Zkittlez and Gelato hybrid that defined candy cannabis at the end of the 2010s, and Super Lemon Cherry Gelato, a sharper, more citrus-heavy relative of Lemon Cherry Gelato. It appeared around 2021 in West Coast dispensaries and is sometimes spelled Super Runts on menus. The goal was a Runtz with more fruit and more punch, and most growers agree it delivers both.

Because both parents carry Gelato genetics, the plant is recognisably from the dessert family: medium height, strong side branching and dense, frosted buds. The Lemon Cherry side adds a brighter aroma and a slightly longer, more sociable first hour than plain Runtz.

Within half an hour a calm, relaxed body feeling settles in, felt through the shoulders and back, while the head stays in a good mood. Growing Super Runtz in Canada

Indoors

Veg for three to four weeks and flip at 45 to 55 cm; Super Runtz stretches about 1.5 times and finishes between 90 and 140 cm. It prefers a stable room at 22 to 26 degrees and a moderate feed with extra calcium and magnesium through the stretch. Keep pH steady; like most Gelato descendants it reacts to swings with blotchy leaves. Flowering takes 56 to 63 days. Dense buds mean the last three weeks need humidity at or below 45% and good airflow through the canopy. Dropping night temperatures by five to seven degrees in the final fortnight brings out the purple.

Outdoors, by region

An 8 to 9 week flower lets Super Runtz finish outdoors across most of Canada. Coastal BC and southern Ontario growers can plant out in late May and harvest in late September or the first days of October. In Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, a sheltered, sunny site and a late May transplant usually bring it in by early October. On the Prairies, start indoors in April and move plants out after the last frost; they typically finish in the last days of September, often with good colour from cold nights. In every region, dense buds and autumn rain are the main risk, so keep a cover handy and shake dew from the colas on cold mornings.

Height and training

Top once or twice and train the branches out to form a flat canopy of eight to twelve tops. Super Runtz responds well to a single net at the flip. Thin the inner leaves at the start of flower and again in week four, keeping the light on the bud sites and air moving through the centre. Flowering and harvest cues

Calyxes swell and pistils darken from about day 50. Harvest when the trichomes are mostly cloudy with 5% to 15% amber, usually day 58 to 63, for a balance of fruit flavour and relaxing effect. Dry slowly at about 60% humidity for 12 days and cure for at least three weeks; the pear and cherry candy notes sharpen noticeably in the jar.

Indoors, 400 to 550 g/m² is realistic for a well trained canopy, and the dense buds lose little weight in drying. Outdoors, a full-season plant in the ground or a 50 litre pot gives 450 to 650 g dried in coastal BC or southern Ontario, and 300 to 450 g on the Prairies. Super Runtz is grown more for flavour and bag appeal than for weight, yet it holds its own on the scale.
