GMO Strain Feminized Marijuana Seeds

Price range: $65.00 through $240.00

GMO, also sold as GMO Cookies or Garlic Cookies, is the savoury outlier of the Cookies family: Chemdawg crossed with Girl Scout Cookies, testing 24% to 30% THC and smelling of garlic, onion, diesel and coffee rather than anything sweet. It is 90% indica in effect but tall and vigorous in the garden, stretching to 180 cm indoors and yielding 500 to 650 g/m² of long, spear-shaped colas after 9 to 10 weeks of flower. Feminized seeds, viability tested in Vancouver, delivered inside Canada in 3 to 7 business days.

GMO Feminized at a glance: a 90/10 indica dominant hybrid that flowers in 9 to 10 weeks, tests 24% to 30% THC, yields 500 to 650 g/m² indoors and up to a kilo per plant outdoors, with a garlic, diesel and coffee aroma that is the opposite of dessert.

A long-season plant, so the seeds should not waste your spring

GMO needs every week of a Canadian season, which means the seeds have to be in your hands in April, not stuck at the border in May. Ours ship from Vancouver, BC in plain packaging and arrive in 3 to 7 business days anywhere in the country. Every batch is viability tested in our seed bank before it goes out and covered by our 80% germination guarantee, and every 10 and 25 seed pack is buy one get one free, so the backup plants for a big outdoor plot cost nothing extra.

Where GMO comes from

GMO is a cross of Chemdawg, the diesel-heavy East Coast strain behind OG Kush and Sour Diesel, and Girl Scout Cookies. It appeared around 2017 and split opinion immediately: half the people who smelled it thought something had gone wrong. The garlic, onion and mushroom aroma is the Chemdawg side amplified, and the strain now has a devoted following for exactly that reason, along with a reputation as one of the heaviest yielding indicas of the modern era.

Despite the 90% indica classification, GMO does not grow like a squat indica. It is tall, lanky, and slow to finish, with long colas rather than golf-ball buds. The classification describes the effect, not the plant.

Effects and experience

GMO is an evening strain and it does not pretend otherwise. The first twenty minutes bring a warm, slightly euphoric lift with a clear head; after that the body weight builds steadily and does not let up for three hours or more. It is long lasting even by indica standards, which is part of why it is popular with people who want one session to cover a whole evening.

At 24% to 30% THC and with a caryophyllene-heavy terpene profile, it is a strong, physical strain. Save it for after the day’s work is done.

Flavour, aroma and appearance

The aroma is savoury and loud: roasted garlic, raw onion, diesel fuel, mushrooms and a dark coffee note, with a faint sweetness only on the exhale. It is not for everyone, and the growers who love it really love it. In flower the smell carries further than almost any strain we sell, so a carbon filter is mandatory indoors, and outdoor plants near a property line will be noticed. Our guide to managing cannabis odour is worth reading before you plant.

Buds are long, foxtailed spears rather than tight nuggets, olive green with a heavy coat of resin and sparse orange pistils. They look unremarkable from a distance and glitter up close.

Growing GMO in Canada

Indoors

GMO stretches two to two and a half times after the flip, so veg for three weeks only and flip small. It is a heavy feeder that handles strong nutrients without complaint, and it likes a warm room, 24 to 28 degrees. Flower runs 63 to 70 days, with some phenotypes wanting 75; the yield comes in the last two weeks, when the spears finally fill out, so patience pays. Keep humidity under 45% at the end: the long colas are less rot prone than dense dessert buds, but the sheer number of them makes airflow essential.

Outdoors, by region

Outdoors, GMO is a coastal BC plant. Start indoors in late March, transplant in late May, and harvest in mid October under a rain cover; the Lower Mainland and the Gulf Islands can just about give it the season it wants, and the reward is a plant well over two metres carrying 700 g to a kilo. Southern Ontario can manage it in a warm year with a greenhouse or a light-deprivation tarp to force flowering in early August, which brings harvest forward to late September. On the Prairies, in Quebec and in the Atlantic provinces, grow it indoors or in a greenhouse; there is no realistic outdoor window. For a garlic-and-gas outdoor plant that finishes in September, the guide to fast flowering seeds for Canada lists better options.

Height and training

Topping twice and a screen are the right approach; left alone GMO becomes one tall spear with weak lower branches. Tie the main branches out early, because they thicken quickly and resist bending after week two of flower. Indoors, plan for 120 to 180 cm even with training; outdoors, budget for 250 cm and stake every main cola by week six, since the colas get heavy enough to snap branches in a storm.

Flowering and harvest cues

GMO tests the patience of every grower. The pistils go orange early and the buds look finished a full two weeks before they are. Ignore that: check trichomes from day 63 and harvest when the cloudy heads show 10% to 15% amber, usually day 68 to 72. The garlic aroma deepens in a slow, cool dry of two weeks and a long cure; three weeks in the jar turns raw onion into something closer to roasted garlic and coffee.

Yield

This is where GMO earns its space. Indoors, 500 to 650 g/m² is standard for a screened canopy, and dedicated growers who give it a full 70 days report more. Outdoors in coastal BC, a full-season plant in the ground routinely gives 700 g to a kilo dried, and the resin content makes it a favourite for concentrate makers, who get an unusually high return per gram. Even the trim is worth keeping. Our yield per plant guide explains how to estimate a harvest before it comes in.

Who GMO is for, and who should pick something else

Grow GMO if you want the biggest indoor harvest in the catalogue and can give it ten weeks, if you make hash or rosin, or if you have tried the sweet strains and want something savoury and long lasting for evenings.

Pick something else if you cannot control odour, since this one cannot be hidden; if you need an outdoor plant outside coastal BC; or if you want a shorter, easier indica for a first grow, where Biscotti or White Widow finishes two weeks sooner on a plant half the height.

How GMO compares

Girl Scout Cookies, its parent, is sweeter, shorter and a week faster, with a more balanced effect. Gorilla Glue #4 shares the diesel and the resin but grows more compact and finishes in nine weeks. Among our indica feminized seeds, GMO is the yield and potency choice for growers with time, and it appears in our high THC seeds guide for good reason.

Frequently asked questions

Is GMO indica or sativa?

GMO is a heavily indica dominant hybrid, about 90% indica and 10% sativa, bred from Chemdawg and Girl Scout Cookies. The effect is physical and long lasting, but the plant itself grows tall and vigorous with a big stretch, so it needs more headroom than a typical indica.

How strong is GMO?

GMO tests between 24% and 30% THC with CBD below 0.5%. It is strong and, more unusually, long lasting: a single evening session commonly holds for three hours or more. It suits experienced users and evenings rather than daytime.

Why does GMO smell like garlic?

The garlic, onion and diesel aroma comes from the Chemdawg parent, whose chem terpene profile is heavy in caryophyllene and sulphur-like compounds. GMO amplifies it. A slow dry and a three week cure soften the raw onion into roasted garlic, coffee and fuel.

How long does GMO take to flower?

GMO flowers for 9 to 10 weeks, 63 to 70 days from the flip, and some phenotypes want up to 75 days. Most of the weight arrives in the final two weeks, so harvesting early costs a large share of the yield. Outdoors it finishes in mid October, which limits it to coastal BC or a greenhouse.

Why Canadian growers order GMO seeds from MJ Seeds Canada

A ten week flowering strain is unforgiving of a late start, and the most common cause of a late start is a seed order sitting in customs. GMO from MJ Seeds Canada ships from our Vancouver, BC seed bank and reaches every province in 3 to 7 business days, in plain packaging, with no border to cross. Free shipping applies over $200, and the $30 tracked and insured option carries a one-time free reshipment.

Since 2009 we have viability tested every batch here before it ships. Use the cup of water and paper towel method in our germination guide and your pack is covered by the 80% germination guarantee. GMO comes in 5, 10 and 25 seed packs; the 10 and 25 packs are buy one get one free with any strain of the same size, so a big outdoor plot and its indoor backup are one purchase. Orders over $420 add 10 bonus seeds.

Pay by Interac e-Transfer, card, Bitcoin or cash. Questions about staking, odour or the harvest window go to a real person in Vancouver by phone, email, WhatsApp or live chat, seven days a week.
