Where Biscotti comes from

Biscotti is a cross of Gelato #25, one of the most sought-after Gelato phenotypes, and South Florida OG, a gassy, earthy Kush that adds weight to the effect and structure to the plant. It surfaced around 2018 in the same California circles that produced Gelato and Sherbet, and within a few seasons it was being used as a parent itself: Permanent Marker, among others, carries Biscotti on one side.

What made it famous was balance of a different kind. It kept the creamy, doughy Gelato flavour, added a little OG gas and a heavier effect, and did it on a short, bushy, easy plant. For growers with limited space it remains one of the best dessert strains available.

Effects and experience

Biscotti starts with a cheerful, slightly giggly lift that lasts twenty minutes or so, then drifts steadily into a calm, heavy-limbed relaxation. It is an evening strain, but a gentle one: at 21% to 25% THC it is strong without being punishing, and the OG side gives it a warm, sleepy finish around the two hour mark rather than a sudden drop.

It is a good first strong strain for someone moving up from milder flower. Small sessions are still sensible, but there is less risk of the anxious edge that some of the 30% strains bring.

Flavour, aroma and appearance

The nose is sweet cookie dough and toasted nuts, with a faint vanilla and, as the bud breaks, a diesel note from the OG parent. The smoke is smooth and dessert-like, cookies and cream on the inhale with a spicy, earthy exhale. It is one of the most consistently pleasant flavours in the catalogue, which is why it is so often recommended to people who find gas strains harsh.

Buds are small to medium, very dense, and thick with trichomes; in a cool finish they flush deep purple with green undertones and rust pistils, the classic Gelato look. The plant is compact and bushy with tight internodes and dark, broad leaves.

Growing Biscotti in Canada

Indoors

Biscotti is a small-space specialist. A four week veg and a flip at 40 to 50 cm gives a plant that finishes at 80 to 120 cm after a modest stretch of about 1.3 times, which means it fits a 150 cm tent with room for the light. It prefers a warm, dry room at 23 to 26 degrees and a light to moderate feed; it is sensitive to overfeeding early in flower, so hold back on nitrogen once the stretch ends. Flower runs 56 to 63 days. The buds are dense, so from week six keep humidity under 45% and a fan moving through the canopy.

Outdoors, by region

The 8 to 9 week flower and short stature make Biscotti a practical outdoor plant across much of Canada. In BC and southern Ontario it finishes in late September to the first days of October. In Quebec and the Maritimes, a sunny, sheltered spot and a late May transplant bring it in by early October; the compact plant is easy to cover on a wet night. On the Prairies, start indoors in early April, plant out in late May, and expect a late September harvest; because the plant is small, it can spend a cold snap in a garage or under a porch roof, which is a real advantage over taller strains. It does need a dry finish, so anywhere with a wet September calls for a rain cover.

Height and training

Top once at the fourth node and use low stress training to open the bush; Biscotti’s tight internodes pack bud sites close together, and spreading them improves airflow more than it improves yield. Skip heavy defoliation. Its natural size makes it one of the easiest plants to keep under a provincial height or plant-count limit while still filling a jar.

Flowering and harvest cues

Watch for the purple turn and the swelling of the calyxes from day 50, then check trichomes from day 56. Cloudy with the first amber, usually day 58 to 63, is the sweet spot; 20% amber makes it noticeably sleepier. Dry 10 to 12 days at 60% humidity and cure for at least two weeks; the cookie flavour is muted for the first week in the jar and comes back strongly after that.

Yield

Indoors, 400 to 500 g/m² is typical for a trained canopy, and because the plant is short, that comes from a tent that a taller strain would outgrow. Outdoors in a full season a Biscotti plant in a 40 to 60 litre pot gives 450 to 600 g dried, and Prairie plants with a shorter season still return 300 to 400 g. The buds are dense and lose little weight in drying. It is not a bulk strain, but for its footprint it is one of the most efficient plants we sell.
