Where Sherbanger comes from

Sherbanger is a cross of Sunset Sherbet and Headbanger. Sunset Sherbet is the Girl Scout Cookies descendant that gave the dessert era its creamy, fruity base, and it is also a parent of Gelato. Headbanger comes from the other side of cannabis culture: Sour Diesel crossed with Biker Kush, a loud, pungent, fuel-first hybrid with an energetic head. A 9 to 10 week flowering time makes Sherbanger an outdoor plant for the warmest parts of the country. On the south coast of BC, including Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Fraser Valley, start seeds indoors in mid April, plant out after the last frost in late May and expect harvest in the first half of October. A clear roof or a simple poly cover over the last three weeks protects the dense tops from October rain. Southern Ontario, from Windsor to the Niagara Peninsula, gives a similar window in most years, though a wet autumn calls for wide spacing and a close eye on the top colas. Sherbanger responds well to topping at the fifth node and a single trellis net. Headbanger-leaning plants stretch more and benefit from a second net at week two of flower; Sherbet-leaning plants stay compact and bushy and need their interior thinned so air can move. Remove the lowest branches at the flip so the plant puts its energy into the top 60 cm, where the best buds form.

Flowering and harvest cues

The pistils darken from about day 50, but the buds keep gaining weight and resin until day 63 to 70. Harvest when most trichomes are milky with 5% to 10% amber for the full two-stage effect. A slow dry at 18 to 20 degrees and 58% to 62% humidity over 10 to 14 days protects the citrus terpenes, which are the first to fade in a warm room. After two weeks in the jar the sherbet sweetness and the diesel balance out.
