English Cheese, Pacific Northwest lemon, and a seed bank in Vancouver
Both parents of Lemon Pound Cake have a long history of crossing borders: Cheese came out of England and Lemon Skunk built its name on the American West Coast. The seeds you order from us do not cross any. They are stocked in Vancouver, BC, shipped in plain packaging, and reach every province and territory in 3 to 7 business days with no customs form or import wait. The 80% germination guarantee applies to every pack, and buy one get one free applies to every 10 and 25 seed pack.
Where Lemon Pound Cake comes from
Lemon Pound Cake strain comes from crossing Lemon Skunk, a bright, citrus-heavy Skunk selection, with a high-potency cut of Cheese, the famous funky Skunk #1 descendant from the United Kingdom. Both parents are Skunk family, which explains the vigour and the strong smell; the difference is in direction. Lemon Skunk pulls toward zest and energy, Cheese pulls toward cream, sourness and depth. Lemon Pound Cake lands in between, which is how it earned a name that sounds like a bakery item.
One point causes real confusion online: Lemon Pound Cake is not the same strain as London Pound Cake. London Pound Cake is a dessert hybrid from the Sunset Sherbet family with grape and berry notes and much higher THC. Lemon Pound Cake is older in feel, more sativa, lighter on THC and far more citrus. If a menu or a seed listing shortens either one to “Pound Cake”, check the parents before you buy.
Lemon Pound Cake strain effects and experience
Expect energy first. Lemon Pound Cake lifts the mood within minutes and tends to make people chatty and focused, which is why many reviewers call it a wake and bake or all-day strain. There is a creamy, relaxed undertone from the Cheese side, but it stays in the background; you are more likely to start a project than lie down.
At 15% to 22% THC it is one of the gentler strains in our recent additions, and that is a feature. People who find 28% hybrids too much often enjoy this one because it gives a full, happy effect without crowding the head.
Lemon Pound Cake flavour, aroma and appearance
The aroma is the story. Myrcene, limonene and pinene lead, with caryophyllene, linalool and humulene in support. Up close you get lemon zest and pine first, then a buttery, baked sweetness, then the Cheese parent’s sharp, slightly ammonia-like funk. The smoke tastes sweeter than it smells: lemon curd and vanilla cake on the inhale, a creamy, tangy cheese note on the exhale.
Buds are dense and chunky for a sativa leaning plant, pale to mid green, with a heavy layer of trichomes and amber to orange pistils. They break apart sticky and leave the smell on your fingers for an hour.
Growing Lemon Pound Cake in Canada
Indoors
Growers describe Lemon Pound Cake as a little demanding, mostly because of its finish. The plant itself is compact and robust, stretching only about 1.5 times, which makes it a good sativa for a short tent or a closet. Veg four weeks, keep days at 23 to 27 degrees, and feed moderately with extra calcium and magnesium under LED lighting. The challenge is the last three weeks: the buds are denser than you expect, so hold humidity at 40% to 45%, keep a fan moving air under the canopy, and run a properly sized carbon filter. Our guide to controlling cannabis odour is worth reading, because the Cheese side is loud. Plan on 63 to 70 days of bloom.
Outdoors, by region
With a 9 to 10 week flower, Lemon Pound Cake belongs outdoors only on the BC coast and in the warmest corner of southern Ontario. On southern Vancouver Island, from Victoria up through the Cowichan Valley, plant out in late May and expect an early to mid October harvest; a rain cover over the last two weeks protects the dense buds. In Essex and Kent counties along Lake Erie, the long, warm autumn brings plants in during the first half of October. Everywhere else, from Kamloops to Halifax, grow it under lights or in a greenhouse, or start it early and use a light-deprivation tarp to bring flowering forward into August.
Height and training
Because it stays short, Lemon Pound Cake does not need aggressive training. Top once, pull the side branches outward with soft ties, and fill a 60 by 60 cm space with four to six main tops per plant. The branches are strong, but the heaviest colas still appreciate a bamboo stake or a net in the last two weeks.
Flowering and harvest cues
Pistils turn early on this strain, often by week seven, while the buds are still filling. Ignore them and watch the trichomes from day 63. For the energetic, talkative effect, cut when most heads are cloudy with just a few amber; for a more relaxed result, wait for 10% to 15% amber. Dry 12 to 14 days in a cool room and cure for at least three weeks. The lemon gets brighter and the cheese softer as the cure goes on.
Lemon Pound Cake yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, expect 450 to 550 g/m² from a topped, evenly lit canopy, which is a high return for a plant this short. Outdoors on the BC coast or in southern Ontario, a plant in a large pot or in the ground produces 500 to 700 g dried. Most of the weight comes in the last ten days of bloom, so an early harvest costs more yield on this strain than on most. Our yield per plant guide explains how to estimate a harvest from canopy size.
Who Lemon Pound Cake is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Lemon Pound Cake if you love lemon strains, want a moderate THC daytime smoke, or need a sativa that fits a short tent. It is also a good fit for growers who found modern 30% strains too much and miss the old Skunk family character. Lemon Pound Cake feminized seeds suit a single small tent well, since each plant stays under about 130 cm.
Pick something else if you cannot control smell, if you want a heavy evening strain, or if you garden outdoors anywhere with an early September frost.
How Lemon Pound Cake compares
Cheese, the funky parent, is more relaxing and less fruity. Super Lemon Haze shares the lemon but grows taller, flowers longer and leans harder into haze. London Pound Cake, the strain people most often confuse it with, is a sweeter, stronger, indica leaning dessert hybrid. Among our sativa feminized seeds, Lemon Pound Cake is the compact, moderate-strength option for citrus lovers.
Frequently asked questions about Lemon Pound Cake
Is Lemon Pound Cake the same as London Pound Cake?
No, they are different strains. Lemon Pound Cake is a sativa dominant cross of Lemon Skunk and Cheese with lemon and cheese flavours and moderate THC. London Pound Cake is an indica leaning Sunset Sherbet descendant with sweet berry and grape notes and much higher THC.
Is Lemon Pound Cake a sativa?
Lemon Pound Cake is a sativa dominant hybrid, roughly 60% sativa and 40% indica. Its effect is energetic, talkative and focused, with a mild creamy calm underneath from the Cheese parent. The plant itself stays compact.
How much THC is in Lemon Pound Cake?
Lemon Pound Cake usually tests between 15% and 22% THC, with CBD under 0.5%. That is moderate by modern standards, which makes it easier to enjoy during the day than most high-THC hybrids.
Is Lemon Pound Cake hard to grow?
Lemon Pound Cake is moderate rather than hard. The plant is short and sturdy, but its dense buds need low humidity and good airflow in the last three weeks, and the strong smell calls for a carbon filter indoors.
