Starburst Feminized at a glance: Starburst is a balanced Fire OG x Pre-98 Bubba Kush hybrid that flowers in 9 to 10 weeks, tests 22% to 28% THC, and gives 400 to 500 g/m² of dense, often purple buds with a sour lemon candy, diesel and pine aroma.

Several strains share the name, so we tell you exactly which lineage is in the pack

Search for Starburst and you will find Pink Starburst, Purple Starburst and a handful of other candy-named crosses, each with different parents. The seeds we sell are the Fire OG and Pre-98 Bubba Kush line, written on the label and on this page, and they ship from our Vancouver, BC seed bank in plain packaging. Delivery takes 3 to 7 business days anywhere in Canada with no border crossing and no customs paperwork, and every lot is germination tested here and backed by our 80% germination guarantee.

Where Starburst comes from

Starburst strain grew out of the California OG scene. The pedigree reported by most sources pairs Fire OG, one of the most potent OG Kush selections, with Pre-98 Bubba Kush, the old, sought after Bubba cut that predates the late 1990s seed releases. Fire OG supplies the lemon fuel, the speed and the frosting; the Bubba side adds the coffee and hash depth, the denser bud and the purple colour that shows up when nights cool.

The name comes from the fruit chew candy, and the comparison is fair: a properly cured jar smells sweet and sour, like a lemon chew, before the gas comes through. Do not confuse it with Pink Starburst, a separate cross built from Sour Diesel, OG and Blueberry lines, or with the various Purple Starburst crosses, which use Starburst as one parent. They share a name, not a recipe.

Starburst strain effects and experience

Starburst arrives fast. Within a few minutes most people feel a rush of energy and good humour, a pressure behind the eyes and a brief spell of focus. That sativa style window lasts perhaps half an hour. Then the Bubba side takes over with a slow, heavy body relaxation that spreads from the shoulders down, and by the second hour the strain is firmly an evening companion. The whole experience runs two to four hours.

At 22% to 28% THC, with some cuts reported higher, this is strong flower. The quick onset makes it easy to underestimate, so take one small draw and give it ten minutes before deciding on another. Dry mouth and dry eyes are the most common complaints; at high doses some people report a racy, anxious edge in the first minutes.

Starburst flavour, aroma and appearance

The nose opens with sharp, sour lemon candy, then a wave of diesel and fresh pine, and finally an earthy hash and coffee note from the Bubba parent when a bud is broken. On the inhale it is sweet and tangy; the exhale is peppery and fuel heavy. Limonene usually leads, followed by myrcene and caryophyllene, which is the classic OG terpene recipe tilted towards citrus.

The buds are tight, round and heavy for their size, olive to forest green with violet and plum streaks when nights fall below about 15 degrees, and covered in a thick layer of trichomes that reads silver from a metre away. Amber pistils sit close to the surface.

Growing Starburst in Canada

Indoors

Starburst behaves like an OG with Bubba manners: some stretch, sturdy stems, and buds that need a dry room. Veg for four to five weeks and flip at about 45 cm; expect a stretch of 1.5 to 2 times to a final 80 to 130 cm. It prefers a medium feed with steady calcium and magnesium, and it dislikes overwatering, so let pots dry back between feeds. Keep days at 23 to 27 degrees and humidity at 40% to 45% from week five. A drop of 5 to 8 degrees at night in the last two weeks brings out the purple without stalling ripening. The aroma is loud from week four, so run a carbon filter.

Outdoors, by region

A 9 to 10 week bloom puts the outdoor harvest in early to mid October, which is workable only in Canada’s longest seasons. Coastal BC growers in Victoria, the Cowichan Valley and the Fraser Valley should transplant in late May and plan a rain cover for the last fortnight, because dense OG buds are where autumn rot starts. In southern Ontario, the Niagara Peninsula, Prince Edward County and the Lake Erie shore give it the warm Septembers it needs. Everywhere else, from Calgary to Fredericton, Starburst is a tent or greenhouse plant; if you want a candy-and-gas strain for a short outdoor season, our best outdoor seeds for Canada guide lists faster options.

Height and training

Top once or twice and use a screen of green to keep the OG stretch level; Starburst fills a net evenly and rewards a flat canopy with eight to ten firm colas. Strip the lower third at the flip and again at day 21. The Bubba side gives thick stems, so the plant rarely needs extra support before week six, when the swelling colas start to lean.

Flowering and harvest cues

Expect 63 to 70 days. The calyxes keep swelling into the last week, so do not cut early because the pistils have darkened. Mostly cloudy trichomes with 10% amber gives the full rush and body balance; push to 20% amber for a heavier, sleepier result. Dry for 12 to 14 days at 60% humidity and cure for at least two weeks, when the sour candy note sharpens noticeably.

Starburst yield indoors and outdoors

Indoors, a trained plant produces 400 to 500 g/m², and because the buds are dense they lose less weight during drying than fluffier hybrids. Outdoors in a long coastal BC or southern Ontario season, a well fed plant gives 450 to 600 g dried. Resin coverage is excellent, so Starburst is a good candidate for hash and rosin.

Who Starburst is for, and who should pick something else

Starburst seeds suit growers who already enjoy OG Kush and want a sweeter, more colourful version, people who like a strong evening strain with a lively start, and anyone with a tent and a carbon filter who can hold humidity down through the final month.

Choose something else for a first grow, for a short-season outdoor garden, or for a calm daytime strain. A forgiving Kush with a shorter bloom, or a fruit-forward sativa, will be a better fit.

How Starburst compares

OG Kush is the family template: more pine and earth, less candy, and a similar flowering time. Bubba Kush brings the hash and coffee depth on a shorter, heavier plant without the lemon rush. Bubba Fett is another Bubba descendant that finishes faster and lands more gently. Among our hybrid feminized seeds, Starburst is the pick for growers who want OG power with a sweet and sour candy nose.

Frequently asked questions about Starburst

What is Starburst strain?

Starburst is a hybrid made by crossing Fire OG with Pre-98 Bubba Kush, also sold as Starburst OG. It is named for its sour lemon candy aroma, which sits on top of the diesel and pine it inherits from the OG side, and it tests about 22% to 28% THC.

Is Starburst strain indica or sativa?

Starburst is a balanced hybrid. It opens with a quick, energetic, sativa style head rush, then settles into a heavy, indica style body relaxation from its Bubba Kush parent. The plant grows like an OG, with moderate stretch and dense buds.

How strong is Starburst strain?

Starburst usually tests between 22% and 28% THC, with some cuts reported higher, and CBD under 1%. That puts it among the stronger hybrids we stock. It hits quickly, so a single small draw and a ten minute wait is the sensible way to start.

Is Starburst the same as Pink Starburst?

No. Starburst is the Fire OG x Pre-98 Bubba Kush cross, while Pink Starburst is a separate strain built from Sour Diesel, OG and Blueberry lines. Purple Starburst and other candy-named crosses use Starburst as a parent but have their own genetics and effects.
