Transplant after the last frost, give it the sunniest spot you have and plan a rain cover for the final two weeks in coastal gardens. Faster plants can finish in the Montreal area in a warm year. On the Prairies, in northern Ontario and in the Atlantic provinces, the frost often arrives first, so a greenhouse, a hoop house or an indoor run is the safer plan.
The Afghani frame makes it easy to shape. Top once at the fourth or fifth node, then spread the branches with low stress training to build a flat canopy of six to ten tops. A single trellis net helps the heavy colas stay upright in the final weeks, and clearing the bottom third of the plant at the flip keeps air moving where rot usually starts.
Most plants finish between days 56 and 70. Start checking trichomes from day 54; for the bright, energetic effect California Dream is known for, harvest when the heads are mostly cloudy with only a little amber. Letting it go to 15% amber gives a calmer result. Dry slowly over 10 to 14 days, then cure for at least two weeks to bring out the citrus and mint.
