Where Deep Breath comes from
Deep Breath strain is a modern hybrid built almost entirely from the “Breath” family. One parent is a cross of Mendo Breath, the vanilla and caramel indica from the OG Kush Breath line, with Gorilla Glue #4, the resin monster that turned up in every grow room in the late 2010s. The other parent is Alien Breath, which combines POGO (Purple Alien OG x Goji OG) with Berry Breath (Blackberry x Grateful Breath). Stack them and you get a plant with OG structure, GG4 resin and a surprising amount of red fruit.
The name refers to that layered pedigree, but growers also say it describes the smell: one deep inhale over a fresh bud is enough to fill a room. A strain with a similar name has been released from different genetics, so when you compare reviews check that the lineage matches the one above.
Deep Breath strain effects and experience
Deep Breath is quick off the mark. Many people say the lift arrives almost as soon as they exhale: a bright, sociable mood, an urge to talk and a burst of ideas. Over the next hour a steady body calm joins in without taking over, so most users stay upright and engaged. It is a common choice for creative sessions, cooking, or the late afternoon stretch before dinner.
Lab results in legal markets usually fall between 18% and 24% THC, a moderate to strong range that suits people who find 30% strains too much. A big session still ends in heavy eyelids, thanks to the Mendo Breath side, so go easy if you need to stay sharp.
Deep Breath flavour, aroma and appearance
The aroma opens with sweet cherry and dark berry, then fresh pine, lemon peel and a sharp chemical edge from the GG4 grandparent. Breaking a bud releases earthy spice and a faint vanilla. The smoke is fruity and smooth on the way in and lightly sour on the exhale. Pinene is often the lead terpene, which is unusual and explains the forest-fresh lift, with limonene, ocimene, myrcene and caryophyllene in support. Lab-tested jars have shown total terpene levels well above average.
The buds are long and tapered, a little like a pepper in shape, with forest green calyxes, purple flecks in cool rooms, curling orange pistils and a thick crust of trichomes. They are firmer than they look but not rock hard, which makes them easier to dry evenly.
Growing Deep Breath in Canada
Indoors
Expect a medium to tall plant with a stretch of roughly 1.5 to 2 times after the flip, inherited from GG4 and the OG side. Veg for three to four weeks, flip at 45 to 55 cm and plan for 90 to 140 cm at harvest. Keep days at 22 to 27 degrees and humidity at 40% to 50% in bloom. It likes a moderate to heavy feed in weeks two to six, with extra calcium and magnesium under strong LEDs. Most plants finish in 56 to 63 days.
Outdoors, by region
With an 8 to 9 week bloom, Deep Breath fits the outdoor season in most of southern Canada. Plants in the BC Interior and southern Alberta’s Chinook belt usually finish in the final week of September. Along the coast, from Victoria to the Sunshine Coast, and in southern Ontario and the Quebec lowlands, plan on the first week of October and keep an eye on the forecast. In Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northern Alberta, start the seeds indoors in mid April so the plant goes out in late May with a head start; give it the sunniest, most sheltered spot you have, because the long colas can catch the wind. In Atlantic Canada, a hoop house or south facing wall buys the extra warmth the last two weeks need.
Height and training
This plant rewards training more than most. Top twice, then pull the branches flat with ties for two weeks before the flip; it takes low stress training well and fills a screen evenly. A trellis net at the start of flower stops the long colas from leaning, and a fan at canopy height keeps air moving between them.
Flowering and harvest cues
Watch trichomes from day 54. For the upbeat, sociable effect, harvest when most are cloudy with only a few amber heads; waiting for 15% amber brings out more of the Mendo Breath body calm. Dry slowly for 12 days at 18 degrees and around 60% humidity. The cherry and pine notes are delicate and fade in a warm dry room, so a cool, slow dry is worth the patience, followed by a two to three week cure.
Deep Breath yield indoors and outdoors
A trained indoor canopy produces 400 to 550 g/m², and some growers report more under strong light. Outdoors, a plant in a 60 litre pot or amended bed gives 500 to 700 g dried in a full southern season. The GG4 heritage means plenty of resin, so the trim is worth running for hash or rosin.
Who Deep Breath is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Deep Breath if you want a balanced, social hybrid with a fruit and pine profile, if you have room for a medium to tall plant and enjoy training, or if you garden outdoors anywhere with a frost-free September.
Pick something else for a short closet grow or a heavy bedtime strain. Growers who want the same family with much more sedation and sweetness can look at a Peanut Butter Breath grow instead.
How Deep Breath compares
Gorilla Glue #4 is the grandparent for growers who want maximum resin and an earthier, gassier nose. Peanut Butter Breath shares Mendo Breath but goes nutty and savoury, and Garlic Breath takes the Breath name toward funk and garlic. Compare other even-tempered options among our hybrid feminized seeds.
Frequently asked questions about Deep Breath
Is Deep Breath indica or sativa?

What does Deep Breath taste like?
Deep Breath tastes of sweet cherry and berry with pine, lemon peel and a light chemical spice, finishing slightly sour on the exhale. Pinene, limonene and ocimene drive the fresh, fruity profile.
How long does Deep Breath take to flower?
Deep Breath flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, roughly 56 to 63 days after the switch to 12/12. Outdoors it is ready from late September to early October, which suits most of southern Canada and the Prairies with an April indoor start.
