Planet of the Grapes is a roughly 55/45 hybrid that flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, tests 20% to 28% THC, yields 400 to 550 g/m² indoors, and produces purple, frosty buds with a grape soda and chem fuel aroma.
Where Planet of the Grapes comes from
The Planet of the Grapes most dispensaries carry is listed as Grape Diamonds crossed with Chem D-95. Grape Diamonds supplies the purple colour and the grape candy sweetness, while the Chem D-95 side, part of the old Chemdawg family, brings the fuel, the sour edge and much of the potency. The pairing gives a strain that is sweeter than most chem crosses and gassier than most grape strains.
Be aware that an autoflowering seed line shares the name but comes from different grape and ruderalis genetics. The seeds on this page are the photoperiod feminized version, which flowers when you switch the lights to 12 hours or when the days shorten outdoors.
Planet of the Grapes strain effects and experience
Planet of the Grapes opens with a soft wave of good humour and a light pressure around the temples. Conversation flows for the first hour, and music sounds a little better. As the session continues the body grows heavy and comfortable, and by the end of the second hour most people are content to stay put. It is an early evening strain rather than a morning one.
THC usually runs between 20% and 28%. The grape flavour is gentle on the throat, so pace yourself; the effect builds for a good twenty minutes before it peaks.
Planet of the Grapes flavour, aroma and appearance
This is a nose that smells exactly like its name. Grape soda and grape candy come first, then a sour, chemical fuel line that cuts through the sweetness, with a damp earth and black pepper base. The smoke tastes of grape jelly on the inhale and turns gassy and slightly sour on the exhale. Myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene are the main terpenes reported.
When night temperatures drop below 18 degrees in late flower, the buds turn violet to near black, with lime green streaks, bright orange pistils and a dense coat of trichomes. Even a green phenotype shows purple sugar leaves. Most seeds land between the two extremes: a medium height plant with tight internodes, broad leaves from the grape side and slightly longer, chem shaped colas on the top branches. It is one of the most striking plants to photograph in a September garden.
Growing Planet of the Grapes in Canada
Indoors
Planet of the Grapes is a straightforward plant. Veg for three to four weeks, flip at 40 to 50 cm, and it finishes between 80 and 130 cm after a stretch of roughly 1.5 times. It tolerates a range of feeding strengths and recovers well from small mistakes, which makes it a reasonable second grow. Hold days at 22 to 26 degrees, then open the gap between day and night to 8 to 10 degrees in the last fortnight for full colour. Keep humidity under 50% from week six and expect harvest around day 58 to 63.
Outdoors, by region
An 8 to 9 week flower makes Planet of the Grapes a good outdoor plant across much of Canada. Coastal and interior BC, southern Ontario and the St. Lawrence valley can plant out in late May and harvest in late September. In New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI, a sheltered bed against a south wall usually finishes in the first days of October. On the Prairies, start seeds indoors in early April and set plants out at the end of May; the chilly September nights from Saskatoon to Brandon bring out the deepest purple, as long as you cover plants when frost is forecast.
Height and training
Top once and use low stress training to bend the main stem flat; Planet of the Grapes branches evenly and fills a net with eight or so matching tops. Light defoliation at the flip and again at day 21 of flower keeps the inner bud sites lit and dry.
Flowering and harvest cues
The colour change starts around week six and can make the buds look finished before they are. Go by trichomes: mostly cloudy with 10% to 15% amber gives the full, relaxed finish. Dry slowly for 10 to 14 days; the grape note is volatile and fades if the drying room runs warm. Keep the dry space dark and around 16 to 18 degrees, then jar at 62% and burp daily for the first week. The chem fuel tends to dominate fresh off the line, and the candy grape returns after about two weeks of cure.
Planet of the Grapes yield indoors and outdoors
Expect 400 to 550 g/m² from a trained indoor canopy and 450 to 600 g per plant outdoors in a full season in a 50 litre pot or better. Prairie and Atlantic gardens with shorter seasons still return 300 to 450 g. The buds are dense and heavy for their size, and the colour makes the harvest look bigger in the jar than it weighs on the scale.
Who Planet of the Grapes is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Planet of the Grapes seeds if you want a purple, grape-flavoured strain with a bit of chem bite, if you garden outdoors and need a late September finish, or if you want an evening strain that starts sociable before it gets heavy.
Pick something else if gas does not appeal at all, where Grape Ape offers a cleaner grape flavour, or if you need a daytime strain.
How Planet of the Grapes compares
Grape Gas shares the grape and fuel pairing but leans harder on diesel and heavier on the body. Modified Grapes swaps chem for garlic funk from GMO and takes a little longer to finish. For a dessert take on grape, Grape Cake is creamier and sleepier. All three sit among our hybrid feminized seeds.

Questions about Planet of the Grapes
01What is Planet of the Grapes a cross of?
The photoperiod version of Planet of the Grapes is most often listed as Grape Diamonds crossed with Chem D-95. Grape Diamonds gives it the grape candy flavour and purple colour, and Chem D-95 adds the fuel aroma and the potency. An autoflowering line with the same name uses different genetics.
02Is Planet of the Grapes indica or sativa?
Planet of the Grapes is a hybrid with a slight indica lean, around 55% indica and 45% sativa. The effect starts upbeat and chatty and ends relaxed and heavy-limbed. The plant is medium sized and easy to train.
03How strong is Planet of the Grapes?
Planet of the Grapes usually tests between 20% and 28% THC with very little CBD. It is a strong strain, and because the effect takes twenty minutes or so to peak, a small first session is the best way in.
04Does Planet of the Grapes turn purple?
Yes, in most cases. Cooler nights in the last two to three weeks of flower, below about 18 degrees, bring out violet and near black buds and purple sugar leaves. Outdoors in a Canadian September the colour usually appears on its own.
