The Cotton Candy strain is a cross of Lavender and Power Plant. Lavender, itself a blend of Super Skunk, Big Skunk Korean, Afghani and Hawaiian genetics, brought the floral sweetness, the purple and silver leaf colour and a relaxing body effect. Power Plant, a South African sativa line bred for vigour, added the height, the fast early growth and the heavy yields. The original was released in the Netherlands in the early 2000s and has been a steady favourite with Canadian growers ever since.
It is sold under several names, most commonly Cotton Candy Kush or CCK, even though there is no Kush in the pedigree. Be careful with look-alikes: a fast-finishing “early” version, an autoflowering version and newer crosses such as Cotton Candy Sunrise all have different parents or timing. Cotton Candy starts with a cheerful, lightly giddy lift that makes the first half hour sociable and easy. There is a mild clarity to it, enough for a conversation or a walk, but it is not a racy or busy high. As it develops, a soft, full-body calm takes over and the mood turns mellow and content, which is why many people save it for late afternoon and evening.
The strength sits in a comfortable middle range for a modern strain, 17% to 23% THC, which suits people who want a pleasant evening rather than a knockout. As with any strain at that level, larger doses can bring dry mouth, dry eyes and, for sensitive users, a little restlessness.
The name is earned. A cured jar smells like a candy floss stand: spun sugar and sweet berries, a floral lavender note, and a hint of cherry and citrus that comes through more when the bud is broken. The smoke is smooth and sweet with a light herbal, cedar-like finish. Myrcene, caryophyllene and linalool lead the terpene mix, and linalool is the reason the lavender side is so easy to pick out.
The buds form long, spear-shaped colas, light green with copper-orange pistils and a creamy coat of resin that makes them glisten. Late in flower the leaves often take on a metallic lavender or silver sheen, and cool nights bring pink and violet tones to some plants. The loose, foxtailed structure also makes trimming quicker than it is with dense dessert strains.
Height is the main thing to manage. Cotton Candy can double or even triple in size after the flip, so keep veg short, two to three weeks from a rooted seedling, and flip at 30 to 40 cm. With training it finishes between 100 and 180 cm. It is hardy and forgiving with feeding, handles a medium to strong nutrient schedule, and resists most pests well. Keep humidity near 60% in veg and bring it down toward 45% in late flower, since the long colas can hold moisture where they bend.
A 9 to 10 week flower and a mid to late October finish make Cotton Candy a coastal British Columbia plant outdoors, with southern Ontario possible in a warm year. On Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and around the Fraser River delta, start seeds indoors in April, plant out in late May in full sun, and set up a rain cover before the October rains arrive. In the Niagara region and along Lake Erie, it can finish in a long, dry autumn, but the plant’s height makes a sheltered spot essential. Top it early, at the third or fourth node, and again a week later, then pull the branches outward with low stress ties. A screen of green is the best way to grow Cotton Candy indoors: it turns a tall, stretchy plant into a flat canopy of many long colas and keeps the tops away from the light. Supercropping the tallest branches during the stretch is also well tolerated.
Most plants are ready between day 60 and day 70. The pistils darken early, so rely on the trichomes: cloudy heads with a small share of amber keep the effect cheerful, while more amber tips it toward a heavier, sleepier finish. Hang branches for 10 to 14 days in a room held near 60% humidity. The candy sweetness is strongest after two to three weeks of cure.
Cotton Candy is a heavy producer for its potency. Indoors, a screened canopy gives 500 to 600 g/m². Outdoors in a long coastal season, a large plant in the ground can produce 800 g to 1.5 kg, although the top figure needs ideal conditions and plenty of space. Even smaller tent grows tend to surprise first-time growers with the amount of flower.
Grow Cotton Candy feminized seeds if you want a sweet, floral strain with a friendly effect, a big harvest, and a plant that forgives small feeding mistakes. It is a good second grow, or a first grow for anyone willing to learn topping and a screen.

Lavender is the floral, relaxing parent, shorter and slower to flower, while Power Plant is the tall, productive sativa side. Cotton Candy is a hybrid that grows like a sativa, tall and stretchy with long colas, while its effect feels more balanced and relaxing than a typical sativa. Breeder figures list it around 75% sativa, and some strain databases describe the effect as indica leaning, so a sativa leaning hybrid is the fairest description.
Cotton Candy Kush, usually just called Cotton Candy, is a cross of Lavender and Power Plant. Despite the name, there is no Kush in its pedigree. Separate strains such as Cotton Candy Sunrise and fast or autoflowering Cotton Candy versions have different parents or timing.
Cotton Candy flowers in 9 to 10 weeks, or about 60 to 70 days, indoors. Outdoors it finishes in mid to late October, which works on the BC coast and occasionally in southern Ontario. Shorter figures of 40 to 50 days belong to the separate early-finishing version.
