An 8 to 9 week bloom and a stocky, cold tolerant frame make Carbon Fiber a practical outdoor strain across most of the country. Cool nights are an advantage: the colour it shows after a crisp late September in the BC interior or eastern Ontario is hard to match indoors. In the Okanagan, the Kootenays and Ontario from Ottawa to Windsor, plant out in late May and harvest in the last two weeks of September. In the Maritimes, a sunny, sheltered spot gets it done by the end of the month. In Alberta, Saskatchewan and northern Ontario, germinate indoors in April, transplant in early June and throw frost cloth over the plant on cold nights; it usually finishes before the first killing frost. On the coast, a rain cover in September protects the dense colas.

Height and training

The plant stays short and sprouts many side branches, so it responds best to opening up the centre. Resin shows by week three and gets thicker every week. Harvest when trichomes are mostly cloudy with 15% to 20% amber, usually day 58 to 63, which suits its heavy character. Hash makers often cut a few days earlier, when the heads are fully cloudy but still clear-stalked. Dry slowly for about two weeks at 60% humidity; the grape and cookie dough deepen over a four week cure.
