Where Grape Soda comes from
Grape Soda strain is most often described as a selected phenotype of Tahoe OG Kush, the Tahoe cut of OG Kush crossed with SFV OG Kush. Among the plants grown out from that line, one stood out for an unusual grape candy smell sitting on top of the usual lemon and fuel, and it was kept, named for the purple pop it resembled, and passed around the US Northwest competition circuit in the late 2010s. That makes Grape Soda an OG at heart: the structure, the effect and the finish all come from Kush genetics, with the grape as a bonus terpene expression.
The name has been borrowed since. A separate line crosses Red Pop with Grape Gas, an autoflower with unpublished parents uses it, and a few guides describe it vaguely as a grape strain bred to a sativa. Our Grape Soda seeds follow the OG-based, indica leaning profile that most growers know. The strain has also become a parent in its own right, showing up in newer grape crosses such as Grape Zoda and Purple Soda Breath.
Grape Soda strain effects and experience
Grape Soda works fast. Within a few minutes there is a light lift and a moment of focus, enough to finish a conversation or a chore. Then the OG weight moves in, a heavy, comfortable relaxation that starts in the shoulders and spreads down the legs, paired with a mellow, smiling mood. Two hours in, most people are settled for the night.
THC usually sits between 18% and 24%, with some lots reported as high as 26% or more. It is strong enough to respect but easier to manage than the 30% gas strains. Dry mouth and dry, heavy eyelids are the common side effects, and a larger dose leans toward sleep.
Grape Soda flavour, aroma and appearance
The smell is the reason to grow it: sweet grape soda and grape candy, a bright squeeze of lemon zest, then pine and a diesel-tinged OG base that keeps it from tasting artificial. Fresh buds are pungent; cured ones are rounder and sweeter. The smoke follows the nose, fizzy grape on the inhale and earthy pine with a fuel finish on the exhale. Myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene are the main terpenes, backed by small amounts of linalool, humulene and pinene.
The buds are dense and resin heavy, green with purple patches that spread into deep violet when late bloom nights fall to 15 to 17 degrees. Bright orange pistils stand out against the purple. Well grown, it is one of the better looking grape strains you can put in a jar.
Growing Grape Soda in Canada
Indoors
Grape Soda grows like a bushy indica OG, which makes it easier than many hype strains. A three to four week veg and a flip at 40 to 50 cm usually produce a finished plant of 80 to 130 cm after a stretch of 1.5 to 2 times. Keep days at 21 to 27 degrees and nights at 18 to 21 degrees through most of bloom, then let nights drop to 15 to 17 degrees for the last two to three weeks if you want the purple. Feed moderately, prune the lower third before the flip, and hold humidity at 45% to 50% in late bloom. Most plants finish in 56 to 63 days.
Outdoors, by region
An 8 to 9 week bloom lets Grape Soda finish outdoors in most of southern Canada. The BC Interior, the Fraser Valley and southern Ontario usually harvest from the last week of September into the first week of October. Quebec’s Montérégie and the Eastern Townships, along with New Brunswick’s Saint John River valley, can bring it in by early October from a late May planting in full sun. On the Prairies, start seeds indoors in April, transplant once frost risk passes at the end of May, and expect a late September finish; the cold September nights there turn the buds deep purple. Coastal BC gardens ripen a little later and should keep a rain cover handy for the dense OG buds.
Height and training
The OG structure is a dominant central cola with shorter side branches. Topping once at the fourth node and tying the branches outward turns it into four to eight even colas and stops the centre from hogging the light. Grape Soda takes well to a single trellis net and moderate defoliation at day 21 of flower.
Flowering and harvest cues
Start checking trichomes around day 52. Harvest at mostly cloudy with 10% to 15% amber for the classic heavy OG finish, or a few days earlier for a lighter effect. Grape terpenes are delicate, so dry cool and slow, 16 to 18 degrees and around 60% humidity for 10 to 14 days, then cure for at least three weeks; the soda note gets sweeter and louder in the jar.
Grape Soda yield indoors and outdoors
A trained indoor canopy produces 400 to 500 g/m², with dense buds that hold their weight after drying. Outdoors, a plant in good soil or a 50 to 80 litre container returns 500 to 800 g of dry flower in a full season, and somewhat less where the season is shorter. For help estimating your own numbers, our yield per plant guide walks through the main factors.
Who Grape Soda is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Grape Soda seeds if grape is your favourite flavour, if you want an evening indica that is not the strongest thing on the shelf, or if you want purple buds from an outdoor garden that finishes before mid October. The plant is forgiving enough for a careful beginner.
Choose something else for daytime use or if you want an energetic sativa. If you prefer a classic OG without the grape, Tahoe OG is the line it came from.
How Grape Soda compares
Grandaddy Purple is the classic grape indica: heavier, sweeter and more berry than citrus, with no OG fuel. Grape Ape brings a similar purple candy smell on a squat, very relaxing plant. Spritzer chases the same fizzy grape note through Runtz genetics, with brighter fruit. Our indica feminized seeds include more grape and purple strains.
Frequently asked questions about Grape Soda
Is Grape Soda indica or sativa?
Grape Soda is an indica dominant hybrid, usually listed as about 70% indica and 30% sativa. It starts with a quick, light lift and then settles into heavy body relaxation, which makes it an evening strain.
What is Grape Soda strain a cross of?
Grape Soda is most often described as a grape-scented phenotype of Tahoe OG Kush, which comes from the Tahoe cut of OG Kush and SFV OG Kush. A different line crosses Red Pop with Grape Gas, but the OG-based version is the one most growers mean.
What does Grape Soda strain taste like?
Grape Soda tastes like sweet grape pop and grape candy on the inhale, followed by lemon zest, pine and an earthy OG diesel on the exhale. The grape flavour is strongest after a slow, cool dry and a cure of three weeks or more.
How long does Grape Soda take to flower?
Grape Soda flowers in 8 to 9 weeks, about 56 to 63 days after switching to 12 hours of light. Outdoors in Canada it is ready from late September to early October, so it can finish in most southern regions.
