Blueberry Gelato is a 70/30 indica leaning cross of Blueberry and Thin Mint GSC that flowers in 8 to 10 weeks, tests 18% to 25% THC and gives 450 to 600 g/m² indoors of frosty, blue tinged buds that smell of berries, grape and cream.
Where Blueberry Gelato comes from
Blueberry Gelato strain is a cross of Blueberry, the berry scented indica that won over growers in the late 1990s, and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, the same Cookies phenotype behind the original Gelato family. It was first bred in Northern California, where the plants were selected for colour and for a berry nose that holds up through curing. Blueberry brings the fruit, the shorter frame and the purple tones; Thin Mint adds frost, a cool minty edge and extra potency.
The name causes plenty of confusion. Berry Gelato is the same plant under a shorter name. Blue Gelato, which we also carry, adds Sunset Sherbet to the recipe and is often sold as Blue Gelato 41, so it is a close relative rather than a twin. There is also a seed line made from Blueberry Headband and a Gelato cut that uses the Blueberry Gelato label but needs 10 to 12 weeks. The seeds on this page are the Blueberry and Thin Mint GSC version, which finishes sooner.
Blueberry Gelato strain effects and experience
Blueberry Gelato starts with a calm, contented mood lift that eases tension in the shoulders without clouding the head. In small amounts it suits a late afternoon walk, a board game or a slow dinner with friends. The indica side grows with each puff, and a full session tends to finish in a warm, heavy body feel that pairs well with a blanket and a long film.
Most batches test between 18% and 25% THC, so this is not a beginner's half dose. Users often mention dry mouth and red eyes, and a few report a hazy, sleepy feeling if they push past their usual amount. Treat it as an evening strain until you know how your own plants hit.
Blueberry Gelato flavour, aroma and appearance
The jar smells first of ripe blueberries and grape skins, then sweet cream, with pine and a hint of lavender lingering underneath. Grinding releases citrus peel and a little spice. On the inhale the smoke tastes like blueberry jam on shortbread; the exhale is cooler, with the mint and pine of the Thin Mint parent. Pinene, myrcene and caryophyllene are the terpenes most often reported, which fits the pine, fruit and pepper notes.
Buds are medium sized and chunky, running from light to deep green with thick, bright orange pistils. When nights drop below about 15 degrees late in bloom, the Blueberry side can push blue, violet and near purple tones into the calyxes and sugar leaves. A heavy layer of trichomes sits over everything, and good phenotypes look almost silver from a step away.
Growing Blueberry Gelato in Canada
Indoors
Indoors, Blueberry Gelato is a tidy medium plant that ends at 80 to 140 cm after a moderate stretch. Veg for four to five weeks in a 1.2 metre tent, run 24 to 27 degrees under the lights and keep humidity around 50% through the first half of flower. From week six, bring humidity down to about 42% and let the night temperature fall to 16 to 18 degrees if you want the blue and purple colour to show. The Thin Mint side dislikes heavy feeding, so keep nitrogen modest in bloom and watch the leaf tips for burn. Our guide to growing cannabis indoors in Canada covers the lighting and air flow that make a run like this smooth.
Outdoors, by region
Most Blueberry Gelato plants need 9 weeks of bloom or more, which keeps them to the mildest parts of the country outdoors. On southern Vancouver Island, in the Fraser Valley and along the Sunshine Coast, a late May planting usually comes down in the first half of October; a clear roof over the final three weeks protects the dense tops from coastal rain. In southern Ontario, around Niagara, Essex County and the north shore of Lake Erie, a warm autumn gives a similar finish. On the Prairies, in the Interior and in Atlantic Canada, grow it in a tent or a heated greenhouse, because a September frost arrives before the colas fill.
Height and training
The plant builds a central cola with several strong side branches. Topping once and bending the side branches outward with low stress training gives an even canopy of six to eight tops. The low stress training guide walks through the bends step by step. Clear the lowest third of the plant before week three of flower; those sites only make airy buds that are better trimmed away.
Flowering and harvest cues
Plan on 56 to 70 days of bloom, with most plants finishing around day 63. Wait for the calyxes to swell and the pistils to darken and curl, then confirm with a loupe that most trichome heads have turned milky and a few are amber. A slow dry at 18 degrees for 10 to 14 days and a cure of at least three weeks bring the berry and cream forward; a fast dry leaves the buds tasting grassy.
Blueberry Gelato yield indoors and outdoors
A trained indoor canopy returns about 450 to 600 g/m², and a sunny coastal plant gives roughly 450 to 600 g. The buds are heavy for their size, so the plant often weighs more than it looks. Phenotypes that lean toward the Blueberry parent carry more colour and a slightly lighter harvest, while Cookies leaning plants bring more frost and weight.
Who Blueberry Gelato is for, and who should pick something else
Blueberry Gelato is for growers who want a berry dessert strain with colour, frost and a relaxing finish, and who have a tent or live on the mild coast. It rewards anyone who can control late bloom humidity and enjoys picking the most colourful plant out of a pack.
If you garden outside on the Prairies or in the North, or you want an energetic daytime strain, a faster or more sativa plant will serve you better. Fans of pure fruit with less Cookies weight may prefer the original Blueberry, which is lighter and quicker.
How Blueberry Gelato compares
Blueberry is the berry parent, softer and less frosty, with an even stronger fruit note. Blue Gelato adds Sunset Sherbet for more citrus and a later finish. Gelato 41 shows what the Thin Mint and Sherbet family tastes like without the berry, gassier and more potent. Blueberry Muffin trades the mint for a warm bakery sweetness. For other relaxing berry and dessert plants, see our indica feminized seeds.
Why Blueberry Gelato is the berry Gelato we suggest when you want the cross without the Sherbet
Some growers find Blue Gelato too citrusy and want a plant that tastes more of plain blueberry and mint. Our staff in Vancouver have answered that kind of question since 2009, and you can reach them by phone, email, WhatsApp or live chat any day of the week to compare the two before you order.

Questions about Blueberry Gelato
01Is Blueberry Gelato indica or sativa?
Blueberry Gelato is an indica leaning hybrid, roughly 70% indica and 30% sativa. It starts with a calm, happy lift and finishes with a warm, heavy body feel. It is usually saved for the evening hours.
02What is Blueberry Gelato crossed with?
Blueberry Gelato is a cross of Blueberry and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. Blueberry supplies the fruit flavour and purple colour, and Thin Mint adds the frost and a cool mint finish. A separate seed line uses Blueberry Headband and Gelato under the same name and flowers more slowly.
03Is Blueberry Gelato the same as Blue Gelato 41?
No, they are close relatives rather than the same strain. Blue Gelato 41 adds Sunset Sherbet to the Blueberry and Thin Mint mix and usually finishes a little later. Berry Gelato, on the other hand, is simply another name for Blueberry Gelato.
04How long does Blueberry Gelato take to flower?
Blueberry Gelato flowers in 8 to 10 weeks indoors, with most plants ready around week nine. Outdoors it finishes in early to mid October. That timing suits coastal British Columbia and southern Ontario, while colder regions should grow it inside.
