One Vancouver order for a winter tent run and a spring garden start
Cherry Runtz is short enough for an indoor tent in January and quick enough to finish outdoors before October rain, so one order can cover both. The seeds are already in Canada, kept in our Vancouver, BC seed bank and shipped in a plain envelope by domestic post, reaching any province or territory in 3 to 7 business days. Every lot is germination tested before it goes on sale, every pack carries our 80% germination guarantee, and the 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Cherry Runtz comes from
Cherry Runtz strain is Runtz crossed with Cherry Pie. Runtz, the Zkittlez x Gelato hybrid that became one of the most requested strains of the past decade, brings the sweet candy fruit and dense, frosty structure. Cherry Pie, a Granddaddy Purple and Durban Poison cross, adds tart cherry, deeper purple colour and a little sativa sparkle from the Durban side. Several seed lines and clone versions carry the name, and a few pair Runtz with other cherry selections, but the Cherry Pie cross is the one most growers and menus describe.
The idea behind the cross is obvious once you smell it: the fruit candy of Runtz with a real cherry identity, rather than the general tropical sweetness of the original. It has become a regular sight on dispensary shelves and in home tents because it delivers that flavour on a plant that is not difficult to grow.
Cherry Runtz strain effects and experience
The high comes on fast, often as a tingle around the head and a burst of good humour within a few minutes. That happy, light start is the Runtz side. Over the next half hour the warmth spreads into the body, and the Cherry Pie and Granddaddy Purple heritage takes over with a soothing, loose calm. Many people describe feeling relaxed and energized at the same time early on, before it settles into a comfortable, lazy mood.
At 20% to 28% THC, Cherry Runtz is strong. A moderate session suits a late afternoon or evening at home; a large one leads toward sleep. Wait twenty minutes before deciding on a second round.
Cherry Runtz flavour, aroma and appearance
The nose leads with cherry candy and black cherry, then tart berries, fruit punch and a sweet, sugary note that recalls the Runtz name. Underneath sits a soft earthiness and a hint of spice. The smoke is sweet and fruity on the inhale, with a slightly sour cherry exhale and a light pepper finish. Limonene, myrcene and caryophyllene are the terpenes reported most often.
The buds are dense and rounded, coated in resin, with lime to forest green calyxes washed in purple and bright orange pistils. The Granddaddy Purple heritage means colour shows up readily, especially when nights cool in the last two weeks.
Growing Cherry Runtz in Canada
Indoors
Cherry Runtz is a forgiving plant with a moderate stretch of 1.5 times or a little less. Veg for three to four weeks, flip at 45 to 55 cm, and expect 80 to 130 cm at harvest. Keep days at 21 to 27 degrees and humidity under 50% from week four of bloom; the buds are tight, and the Granddaddy Purple side does not like stagnant air. Feed at a moderate rate with a little extra phosphorus and potassium in the bulking weeks, as covered in our soil and nutrients guide. Flowering takes 56 to 63 days.
Outdoors, by region
Cherry Runtz finishes in time across most of southern Canada. In the Okanagan, the Similkameen and the Kootenays it is usually ready in the last week of September. On the coast and in southern Ontario, plan on early October from a late May transplant, with a rain cover handy. In the St. Lawrence valley, the Eastern Townships and Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, give it the warmest spot in the garden for an early October harvest. On the Prairies, germinate indoors in April and plant out once frost risk passes; a late September harvest is realistic, and cold September nights pull out the purple.
Height and training
Top once or twice and use low stress training to create an even canopy of eight to twelve tops. Cherry Runtz responds well to a scrog net and stays compact enough for most tents. A light defoliation at day 21 opens up the dense interior and reduces the risk of mould in late bloom.
Flowering and harvest cues
Begin checking trichomes around day 54. Mostly cloudy with 10% amber gives the best balance of mood lift and body calm; more amber makes it heavier. Dry for 10 to 14 days at about 60% humidity and 17 to 19 degrees, then cure for three weeks; the cherry gets brighter and sharper in the jar.
Cherry Runtz yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, Cherry Runtz returns 400 to 500 g/m² from a screen of evenly trained tops. Outdoors, a plant in a 50 litre pot or good garden soil produces 450 to 600 g of dried flower in a full southern season, a little less on the Prairies. The buds are dense and lose little weight in the dry, and the sticky sugar leaves are worth saving for edibles or a small batch of dry sift.
Who Cherry Runtz is for, and who should pick something else
Grow Cherry Runtz feminized seeds if you love cherry and candy flavours, if you want a relaxing late day strain, or if you are looking for a dessert strain that is forgiving enough for an early grow. It fits most tents and most Canadian outdoor seasons.
Look elsewhere if you need an energetic daytime strain or if you dislike sweet profiles. For a more energetic cherry with a citrus twist, Tropicana Cherry is the lively option.
How Cherry Runtz compares
Runtz is the parent: sweeter, more tropical and slightly more social. Cherry Pie, the other parent, is earthier with more tart cherry and less candy. Lemon Cherry Gelato adds citrus and cream to cherry for a brighter dessert profile. See more evening strains in our indica feminized seeds.
