Every lot is tested before packing and backed by our 80% germination guarantee, and 10 and 25 seed packs are buy one get one free.
Where Watermelon Gelato comes from
Watermelon Gelato strain is a cross of Watermelon Zkittlez and Gelato, with most references naming the Gelato #45 phenotype as the partner. Gelato itself comes from Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, so the family tree combines candy fruit on one side and creamy dessert on the other. It began as a flower-market cut in the United States, and later seed versions share the same parents.
Do not confuse it with Watermelon OG, a separate strain, or with crosses sold under a reversed name. Watermelon Gelato has also become a parent itself, with a growing list of children that carry its melon and cream profile into new hybrids.
Growers who run a full pack usually find two phenotypes. One follows the Gelato side, with short internodes, dark leaves and a creamy, almost sherbet-like smell. The other leans toward Watermelon Zkittlez, grows a little taller and puts out a louder melon candy note. The Gelato-leaning plants tend to finish a few days earlier, while the melon-leaning ones usually yield slightly more. Smell the stems in week four of flower and label each plant; it makes choosing a keeper much easier.
Watermelon Gelato strain effects and experience
The body relaxes first, usually within a few minutes, with a soft warmth that loosens the neck and back. Then the Gelato side brings a clear, contented lift that keeps conversation easy and the mood cheerful. Many smokers say it relaxes without heavy couch-lock, which makes it a good fit for an early evening.
THC between 19% and 26% gives it a solid punch, but the effect is smooth rather than overwhelming. Start with a small amount, especially if you are sensitive to strong hybrids, and expect dry mouth.
The session usually lasts two to three hours. The first hour feels the most social, and the last part is quiet and comfortable, which is why many people choose it for a film, a board game or dinner with friends rather than a late night.
Watermelon Gelato flavour, aroma and appearance
The aroma is sweet, ripe watermelon with creamy citrus behind it, a touch of sour apple, and a floral, earthy base. A faint fuel note appears on the exhale in some phenotypes. The Gelato influence makes the smoke rounder and creamier than Watermelon Zkittlez, with less of the sour candy bite. Limonene, caryophyllene and linalool usually lead, with myrcene and ocimene in support.
Buds are compact and heavy, lime to forest green with lavender tints in cooler rooms, orange pistils and a dense layer of trichomes. Well grown flower looks almost sugar coated.
Growing Watermelon Gelato in Canada
Indoors
Watermelon Gelato suits tents and grow rooms well. A four week veg produces a plant of 90 to 130 cm after the stretch. It likes 22 to 26 degrees and a moderate feed, and it shows calcium and magnesium shortfalls quickly under LED, so add a cal-mag supplement from early flower. The buds pack tightly, so keep humidity under 45% from week five and thin the lower third of the plant at the flip. Most phenotypes finish in 56 to 65 days. Our indoor growing guide covers tent setup in detail.
Outdoors, by region
An 8 to 9 week flowering time makes Watermelon Gelato workable in most of Canada. In southern Quebec, the Eastern Townships and the Saint Lawrence valley, a late May planting is usually ready by the first week of October. In New Brunswick and the Annapolis Valley, choose the sunniest corner of the garden and use a rain cover for the last three weeks, because damp Maritime autumns are hard on dense buds. Coastal BC and southern Ontario growers can expect a harvest in late September. On the Prairies, start seeds indoors in April and plant out in late May for an early October finish.
Height and training
The plant grows compact with a strong main cola. Topping once and spreading the branches with low stress training gives a flat, even canopy and helps airflow. Stake the main colas around week six, as the weight can bend the branches.
Flowering and harvest cues
Check the trichomes from day 55. Mostly cloudy with a few amber heads gives a balanced, upbeat effect; more amber makes it more relaxing. Dry the buds slowly at about 60% humidity, and give them at least two weeks of curing to bring out the watermelon and cream.
Watermelon Gelato yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, a trained canopy gives 450 to 550 g/m². Outdoors, expect 400 to 600 g per plant in a good season, depending on pot size and the length of the summer. Because the buds are so dense, the dry weight is high for the size of the plant. Rosin makers also like it: the Gelato side produces greasy, sticky trichome heads, and the melon flavour carries well into a pressed extract. Pruning off the lower popcorn sites before week three of flower sends more of that weight to the top colas.
Who Watermelon Gelato is for, and who should pick something else
Choose Watermelon Gelato if you enjoy creamy, fruity dessert strains, if you want a relaxing but not sleepy evening hybrid, or if you grow in a small tent. It is a forgiving plant for a first or second grow.
Pick a different strain if you want a pure sativa high or a strain for big outdoor yields. Growers in the far north with a very short frost-free window may also be happier with an autoflower. If you prefer more candy and less cream, its parent Watermelon Zkittlez is the better choice.
How Watermelon Gelato compares
Watermelon Zkittlez, its parent, is sweeter and sharper, with a candy flavour and a more giggly start. Gelato 41 is the heavier, gassier member of the Gelato family. Gelato 33 is more balanced, with berry and citrus notes. Our indica dominant feminized seeds range has more relaxing options.
