Then it turns, and the Kush Mints and Gushers weight arrives as a deep, heavy calm through the body, with a strong pull toward the couch and, later, sleep. It is best kept for evenings when nothing else needs doing.

At 22% to 28% THC this is a potent strain, and the late heaviness can catch people off guard. Take it slowly and give each draw time to land.

Gush Mints flavour, aroma and appearance

The jar opens with sweet fruit candy, like the chewy snacks it is named after, then fresh spearmint and a sharp diesel note underneath. Indoors

This is where Gush Mints belongs. Veg for four to five weeks, flip at 45 to 50 cm and expect a 1.5 times stretch to a final 80 to 120 cm, which suits a 120 cm or 150 cm tent. Hold 23 to 26 degrees during lights on and keep the night within five degrees. A medium feed with a little extra potassium from week four of bloom helps the buds swell. Outdoors, by region

An early to mid October harvest limits Gush Mints outdoors to coastal BC and the warmest pocket of southern Ontario. On Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Lower Mainland, start indoors in April, plant out after the last frost and put a greenhouse or rain cover over the plant from mid September; tight, sugary buds and west coast rain are a risky combination. In southern Ontario, the Lake Erie shoreline and the Niagara Peninsula can carry it to the finish in a dry fall. Everywhere else, from the Prairies to Newfoundland, grow it indoors or in a heated greenhouse, where its compact size is an advantage rather than a limit.

Height and training

Because it stays short, focus on width. Top at the fifth node and again on the two new leaders to make four main colas, then spread them with low stress training. A sea of green with four small plants in a 120 cm tent also works well, since the internodes are tight. Remove fan leaves shading bud sites at day 21 of bloom and lightly again around day 45.

Flowering and harvest cues

Resin builds from week three and the calyxes swell sharply after day 50. Harvest when the trichomes are mostly cloudy with 10% to 20% amber, usually between day 65 and 70. Pulled too early, Gush Mints tastes thin and grassy, so let it go the distance. Dry for 12 to 14 days at 60% humidity and around 18 degrees, then cure for at least three weeks.
