Snowcap Feminized at a glance: Snowcap is a 70/30 sativa leaning cross of Humboldt Snow and Haze that flowers in 9 to 10 weeks, tests 18% to 24% THC and yields 400 to 500 g/m² of long, frosty spears that smell of lemon peel, menthol and a little ginger.
Snow on the name, not on the plant: a Haze for Canadian tents and the mildest coastal gardens
The joke writes itself in a country with real snowcaps, but this plant wants none of it. Snowcap needs warmth and a long, dry finish, which in Canada means a tent, a heated greenhouse or a sheltered coastal garden. Our seeds are already stored in Vancouver, BC, a few hours’ drive from the coastal mountains that share its name, and they ship by domestic post to every province and territory in 3 to 7 business days. Each pack is guaranteed to reach 80% germination and travels in a plain envelope with no label that mentions seeds.
Where Snowcap comes from
Snowcap strain is a Northern California hybrid, most often described as a cross of Humboldt Snow, an Afghani-based indica, with a classic Haze. Some growers and older listings name Snow White instead of Humboldt Snow, and no breeder has ever published a definitive pedigree, so both accounts circulate. Either way, the Haze side clearly dominates the plant’s shape, smell and effect.
The name comes from appearance. Mature Snowcap colas are so heavily frosted that the tips look white from across a room, like a mountain peak in early winter. It became a quiet favourite on the West Coast in the 2000s and still shows up on Canadian craft menus, sometimes as Snow Caps or Snow Cap. A different strain called Snowcap OG and various CBD-labelled Snowcap products also exist; neither is the plant described here.
Snowcap strain effects and experience
Snowcap is a head strain. The onset is quick and buzzy, with a lift in mood, a rush of ideas and a tendency to laugh at things that are only slightly funny. Reviewers most often describe it as energizing, creative and happy, and it suits writing, music, a long walk or a busy social afternoon. The body stays light, with only a mild relaxation creeping in toward the end.
Like many Haze descendants, it can feel racy in large amounts or for people sensitive to sativas. A small dose earlier in the day is the best way to meet it; several users note it is a poor choice close to bedtime because the energy keeps the mind running. Expect a dry mouth more than anything else.
Snowcap flavour, aroma and appearance
The jar smells of freshly zested lemon over cool menthol, with ginger root and a sweet, piney incense underneath. Breaking a bud adds a sharper, almost lemon-cleaner brightness. The smoke tastes clean and citrusy, with a cooling, minty exhale that sets Snowcap apart from most lemon strains. Terpinolene and limonene usually lead, with caryophyllene and pinene in support; that mix explains both the citrus and the fresh, slightly herbal feel.
Buds are long and spear shaped, lighter green than an indica, with thin orange pistils and a layer of trichomes thick enough to hide much of the green. Calyxes stack in a foxtail-like pattern on some plants, which is typical Haze behaviour and not a sign of stress.
Growing Snowcap in Canada
Indoors
Snowcap stretches. Veg for only three to four weeks and flip at 25 to 35 cm, expecting the plant to double or even triple its height. A tent at least 180 cm tall is the minimum for a comfortable grow. Run 25 to 28 degrees with lights on and keep humidity at 50% in early flower, dropping to 40% to 45% from week six. The open bud structure resists mould better than dense indicas, but the plant drinks heavily in mid flower and responds well to a steady, moderate feed. Plan carbon filtration; the lemon and menthol aroma carries.
Outdoors, by region
A 9 to 10 week bloom and a tall Haze frame make Snowcap a coastal BC and southern Ontario plant outdoors. On southern Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Lower Mainland, start indoors in April, plant out in late May and expect a mid October harvest under a rain cover. In southern Ontario, the Lake Erie shoreline, Pelee Island and the Niagara region offer the best odds in a warm year. In the Interior, the Prairies, northern regions and most of Quebec and Atlantic Canada, frost and shorter days arrive before the buds finish; grow it indoors or under a heated greenhouse.
Height and training
Training is the key to keeping Snowcap manageable. Top twice in veg and use low stress training to spread six to ten branches flat under a net. Add a second net layer in week two of flower to catch the stretch. Supercropping the tallest tops early in flower keeps the canopy level without hurting yield.
Flowering and harvest cues
Most plants finish between day 63 and 70, though a strongly Haze leaning plant may want an extra week. Harvest with mostly cloudy trichomes and only a few amber heads to keep the effect bright. Dry for 10 to 12 days at 60% humidity. A month in the jar sharpens the menthol note and rounds off any grassy edge.
Snowcap yield indoors and outdoors
Indoors, a well-trained canopy produces 400 to 500 g/m² of light, sticky flower. Outdoors on the coast, a plant in a large bed can return 500 to 700 g, and occasionally more in an unusually hot summer. Buds are less dense than indica flower, so the jar fills quickly even when the scale reads modestly.
Who Snowcap is for, and who should pick something else
Snowcap feminized seeds suit growers who want a daytime sativa with an unusual lemon and menthol flavour, who have the vertical space for a stretchy plant, and who are willing to train. It is an excellent second or third grow for someone who has already handled a hybrid and wants to try a Haze without a 12 week bloom.
Pick something else if your tent is shorter than 150 cm, if you live in a short-season region and want to grow outdoors, or if energetic sativas tend to make you uneasy. A compact indica or a quick hybrid will be far easier in those cases.
How Snowcap compares
Super Silver Haze is the closest classic: similar frost and energy, a little more skunk and a longer bloom. Amnesia Haze trades the menthol for earthy citrus and runs stronger in the head. Ghost Train Haze is taller and more potent, a better fit for experienced growers with headroom. If lemon is what you are after, Lemon Skunk finishes sooner and stays shorter. Frequently asked questions about Snowcap
What is Snowcap strain?
Snowcap is a sativa dominant hybrid usually described as Humboldt Snow crossed with Haze. It tests around 18% to 24% THC and is known for a lemon and menthol flavour, an energetic, creative high and buds so frosty they look snow covered.
Is Snowcap a sativa?
Yes, Snowcap is sativa dominant, roughly 70% sativa and 30% indica. The effect is mostly in the head: upbeat, talkative and creative, with little body heaviness. It is generally considered a daytime strain.
Is Snow Caps the same as Snowcap?
Yes, Snow Caps, Snow Cap and Snowcap are spellings of the same Haze hybrid on most menus. Snowcap OG and CBD-labelled Snowcap products are different strains, so check the lineage if a listing looks unusual.
What does Snowcap taste like?
Snowcap tastes like lemon zest with a cool menthol finish. Underneath there is ginger, pine and a sweet Haze incense, and a slow cure of a month or more makes the minty note more noticeable.
